- New Kia EV2 breaks cover
- It’s a chunky compact SUV
- Set to hit the UK leasing market in 2026
- Kia also reveals new details about the EV4
Kia is readying to launch its most affordable electric vehicle - the incoming EV2.
The Korean firm held its big ‘EV Day’ in Spain this week, where it mapped-out an exciting electric future and revealed some key new details about the EV4 (which we’ve already written about and which is due to arrive later this year).
But Kia also snuck-in a tease for the all-new EV2, a baby SUV that'll sit below the existing EV3 and which we’ve not seen properly before. Kia reckons it'll hit the market in 2026.
So, what do we know so far about the Kia EV2?
It’s being described as a ‘B-segment all-electric SUV’, which means it’s a compact city car that’ll be about the same size as a Ford Puma, Nissan Juke or Jeep Avenger.
The EV2 has a strong silhouette, with a purposeful look and ‘Star Map’ signature lighting minus any glass covering it. There are convenient rear-hinged doors for drivers with an ‘active urban lifestyle’.
The cabin features a metal surface that runs along the lower portion of the car’s dashboard and incorporates a wireless charger and a power outlet.
The second-row seats fold up, allowing the front-row seats to slide back as far as possible, giving you plenty of space to chill out when waiting for it to charge.
There are pop-up sliding luggage dividers in the back while so-called ‘message lighting’ allows occupants to display text messages through the vehicle’s windows to communicate with pedestrians and other road users - which is obviously not a complete recipe for disaster, honest. What could possibly go wrong..?
Meanwhile triangular speakers mounted in the door trim are removable and portable.
The Kia EV2 is expected to launch in Europe and other regions in 2026.
Kia EV4 range figures:
Saloon: Hatchback:
Base: 267 miles Base: 255 miles
Long range: 391 miles Long range: 367 miles
Kia has also revealed details about the EV4, which is slated to arrive in 2025.
We already knew that it was going to be available as both a four-door saloon and five-door hatchback and that the pair would act as rivals to the Tesla Model 3 and VW ID.3.
And now we know a LOT more about the EV4 - including how far it’ll go on a single charge.
There will be a choice of two batteries - a 58.3 kWh standard range unit and a 81.4 kWh long range option.
The long range battery will allow the EV4 Saloon to journey for up to 391 miles between charges, which falls short of the 436 miles you get with the Tesla Model 3 Long Range RWD.
The standard range battery unlocks a range of up to 267 miles.
The EV4 Hatchback’s range is a max of 367 miles with the biggest battery or 255 miles with the smaller one.
The EV2 will be relatively punchy, able to accelerate from 0-62 mph in either 7.4 seconds or 7.7 seconds, depending on which battery you choose.
A 10-80% charge can be accomplished in as little as 31 minutes while there’s Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capabilities that lets you power other devices using the car’s battery.
The cabin is impressive, boasting a triple-screen set-up (12.3-inch, 5.3-inch and 12.3-inch screens) for a combined 30-inch widescreen display. It’s all fully-connected, so you can watch YouTube, Netflix, Disney+, play games and sing karaoke when you’re parked up.
Kia also reckons the EV4 offers ‘one of the most comprehensive automotive entertainment experiences ever developed for a production vehicle’.
In ‘Theatre Mode’ the 30-inch display lets you watch movies in widescreen while the interior mood lighting and eight speaker sound system is dialled-in to give you an ‘exceptional viewing experience’.
The EV4 - like a lot of other Kias - should also be exceptionally safe, coming with semi-automated ‘Highway Driving Assist’ tech, which features adaptive cruise control and lane change assist.
There’s also a ‘Direct Grip Detection System’ which can sense if you’ve got proper control of the steering wheel or if you’re just winging it with your fingers and thumbs.
Full UK specifications and pricing for the Kia EV4 will be confirmed later in 2025.
