This is the fully-electric KG Mobility Torres EVX - and you’ll be able to lease it next year.
KG Mobility is the new name for SsangYong, after the Korean manufacturer announced a major rebrand earlier this year.
And we first caught a glimpse of the battery-powered Torres in the summer of 2022, when it was revealed as a rival to lease cars like the Skoda Enyaq iV and the Subaru Solterra.
Now KG Mobility has revealed that the Torres EVX is due for launch in Britain in the first quarter of 2024.
It’ll sit alongside the fully-electric Korando e-Motion in the firm’s range.
And judging by the new industry alliance KG Mobility has just formed, the Torres EVX could be an important car indeed.
That’s because KG Mobility has joined forces with Chinese manufacturer BYD. The agreement will see the two automakers working on electrified powertrains together, including plug-in hybrid systems.
And BYD-KG Mobility power packs will make their way into the Torres EVX.
Make no mistake, BYD is a bona fide leader in the field, with its ultra-slim, ultra-safe, ultra-sustainable ‘Blade’ batteries featuring in the BYD Atto 3 SUV, Seal saloon, and Dolphin hatchback.
With BYD in a supporting role, KG Mobility might prove a few doubters wrong next year.
Chairman Kwak Jae-seon of KG Mobility said: "We anticipate that this expanded cooperation with BYD will strengthen our electric vehicle lineup, including the Torres EVX, KR10, and F100, while reorganising our product range to focus on eco-friendly vehicles. This includes introducing a dedicated electric vehicle platform and launching hybrid products."
So, what do we know about the Torres EVX so far?
Judging by what’s already on offer in Korea, the Torres EVX will be underpinned by a 73.4 kWh battery supplying power of 201 bhp. That should mean EVX will have slightly more shove than the similar MG ZS EV, coupled with a range of around 260 miles between charges.
Expect entry-level versions to come loaded with 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, 12.3-inch infotainment screen with sat-nav, electric seats and a roof rack.
Meanwhile models higher up the trim range might add creature comforts like heated leather seats, as well as exterior style flourishes - though those details will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
KG Mobility says the Torres EVX takes its name from the glorious Torres del Paine National Park in Patagonia, Chile, so it’s an electric SUV that’ll appeal to those who love the great outdoors.
The firm also let slip this week that its fully-electric pick-up is also in the works, with ‘mass production’ scheduled for the second half of 2024.
Once more, batteries produced in the BYD-KG Mobility alliance will be used in the upcoming BEV pick-up, so it could be a decent bit of kit indeed.
If you can’t wait for the Torres EVX, you can lease the Ssangyong Korando e-Motion with Select from £602 per month*.
