Jaguar has revealed a menacing new version of its E-PACE compact SUV - the mean and moody R-Dynamic Black Edition.
The E-PACE enjoyed a major refresh at the tail end of last year, which saw the introduction of new mild-hybrid engines as well as a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
Significant improvements to the interior also meant it tempted more lease customers away from vehicles like the Audi Q3, BMW X1, and Volvo XC40.
And now this new Black Edition has really upped the ante when it comes to striking road presence.
It’s based on the existing E-PACE ‘R-Dynamic S’ trim, but comes with even more swagger.
You get gloss black door mirror caps as well as black detailing to the front bumper and lower grille surround, main grille surround and grille tips. The side window surround and side vent also feature the same gloss black finish, along with the Jaguar script and rear badging.
Meanwhile there’s also distinctive 19-inch Satin Grey alloy wheels with contrasting red brake calipers, privacy glass and a panoramic roof.
A Jaguar spokesperson says:
“The distinctive finish has greater depth and substance, and perfectly complements E-PACE’s contemporary exterior design.”
Step inside the Black Edition and there’s lashings of luxury and enhanced connectivity compared with other models, with the cabin dominated by a curved 11.4-inch HD touchscreen that’s integrated into the central instrument panel.
And while Black Editions are not available with the plug-in hybrid powertrain, it can instead be specced with a choice of 2.0-litre ’Ingenium’ MHEV powertrains, ranging from the efficient D165 and D200 diesels to the smooth and powerful P200 petrol – all with a nine-speed automatic transmission and All-Wheel Drive as standard.
Speaking of all wheel drive, the E-PACE features something called ‘Standard Driveline’ technology that automatically distributes torque between the front and rear wheels to ensure optimum traction.
You also get intelligent ‘Driveline Disconnect’ capabilities, which disengages the AWD when you don’t need it - cruising along on the motorway, for example - to boost fuel economy.
A Jaguar spokesperson adds: “The new model brings a dramatic aesthetic to the E-PACE line-up with unique gloss black design elements and an enhanced specification.”
The new Jaguar E-PACE R-Dynamic Black Edition is available with 2.0-litre MHEV petrol and diesel powertrains, and is available to order now.
