Ineos reveals Grenadier Quartermaster pickup

New British firm Ineos Automotive has unveiled its second-ever car - the Grenadier Quartermaster double cab pickup.

Ineos is a brand launched by chemicals company boss Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the man who has been trying to buy Manchester United FC in recent months.

Last year Ineos brought us the Grenadier, a do-it-all, go-anywhere SUV that pays homage to Sir Jim’s favourite ever car, the old Land Rover Defender.

And now the Grenadier Quartermaster pickup has joined the Ineos line-up, with this particular variant having been teased when the regular Grenadier was first unveiled.

Ineos says the Quartermaster offers ‘world class off-road ability, with 264mm of ground clearance, an 800mm wading depth and approach, breakover and departure angles unrivalled by any other series production pickup’.

There’s a load bay large enough to swallow a 1,200mm x 800mm Euro pallet while the Quartermaster also gets a 760 kg payload and 3,500kg towing capacity.

The tailgate can also support a weight of 225 kg when fully open.

There’s a choice of either petrol or diesel engines, both of them 3.0 litre units and sourced from BMW. These powertrains are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission from specialists ZF.

A centre differential lock and a two-speed transfer case are fitted as standard, while front and rear diff locks are optional.

And, like the regular Grenadier, the Quartermaster rides on tough five-link front and rear suspension while Brembo brakes provide the stopping power.

An Ineos spokesperson adds: “Quartermaster will be available with a wide range of tailored accessories for drivers looking to customise it to their specific needs. Its cargo bay can be fitted with a robust frame and waterproof canvas canopy or a lockable roller tonneau cover, while a roof rack further increases carrying capacity and can host a wide range of mounts to carry expedition essentials such as jerry cans, sand ladders and shovels.”

You might struggle to lease the Ineos Grenadier, or Grenadier Quartermaster, right now as demand is high as production ramps-up. That’s perhaps unsurprising, as the Grenadier has become sought-after among celebs, including current owner Lewis Hamilton.

But in the meantime, some good leasing alternatives might be the current Land Rover Defender, or pickups like the Isuzu D-MAX Arctic Trucks AT35, or the Ford Ranger Raptor.
