- ‘Cross’ variant of Hyundai Inster launches
- More ‘outdoor-focused’ than regular Inster
- Unique exterior styling and more robust bumpers
- Priced from £28,745
Hyundai has launched a new, outdoorsy ‘Cross’ variant of its funky little Inster EV.
The four-seat, fully-electric Inster hit the leasing market at the end of 2024 as an affordable urban hatchback-SUV crossover (below).
There’s plenty to recommend it to lease customers, not least its distinctive styling and the fact that all variants come with a range-boosting heat pump fitted as standard.
Now the Inster has even more appeal thanks to this Inster Cross model, which enjoys more robust exterior styling, including revised bumpers and more rugged side skirts.
Don’t be fooled, though - despite the Hyundai Inster Cross’ appearance, it’s not all-wheel drive. A single electric motor drives the front wheels.
While the standard Inster is available in two grades - 01 and 02 - the Inster Cross acts as its own trim level.
It gets 17-inch alloys, squared-off bumpers, ‘Cross’ side skirts, full projection LED headlights, and the aforementioned heat pump.
The cabin enjoys a sliding rear bench of seats so you can maximise boot space, heated front seats and steering wheel, ambient lighting, privacy glass, keyless entry, and an electric-opening glass sunroof.
There’s a 10.25-inch touchscreen with sat nav and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity and a wireless phone charging pad.
You can also add a ‘Tech Pack’ which unlocks Vehicle-to-Load functionality which lets you power external devices - handy for when you want to bring your favourite coffee maker with you on your camping trip.
A 49kWh battery is standard, providing a maximum power output of 115 PS and up to 223 miles on a single charge. Rapid charging at up to 200 kW DC can take the energy in the battery from 10-80% in 30 mins.
There’s an abundance of safety kit fitted as standard, too, including Forward Collision Avoidance Assist, Highway Drive Assist, Lane Keep Assist, Smart Cruise Control (which uses sensors to automatically maintain a safe distance from other vehicles while driving), and parking sensors at the front and rear.
Ashley Andrew, President of Hyundai & Genesis UK, said: “With its distinct styling and segment-leading technology, Inster is already an exciting proposition. The Inster Cross only furthers that versatility and appeal with its bold design and added features, and continues to showcase Hyundai’s position as an industry leader in electrification.”
The Hyundai Inster Cross is available to lease now. Rivals include the MG ZS EV, Citroen e-C3 and the incoming Fiat Grande Panda.
