New Hyundai i10 is ‘sportier’ and ‘bolder’ than before

Here’s a first look at the ‘sportier’ new Hyundai i10, which is due to hit UK roads later this year.

The i10 is an affordable compact hatchback that goes toe-to-toe with rivals like the Kia PicantoToyota Aygo X and the Suzuki Swift.

And Hyundai has announced a raft of updates for its plucky little urban warrior that it hopes will make it ‘even more competitive in its class’.

The first thing to note is how the new i10 looks.

Hyundai says the supermini has been handed a longer wheelbase and lower roof to give it a ‘sportier stance’ and a ‘bolder feeling’ than previously.

At the front of the car there’s a new daytime running lights set-up, which has been integrated into a wider front grille.

And at the back, the rear LED lights now display an ‘H’ on the horizontal tailgate line. There are also fresh 15 inch alloys.

As before, you’ll be able to lease the Hyundai i10 in ‘ ’ trim - which dials-up the performance themed elements further and which takes its inspiration from the i20 N hot hatch.

While precise technical details are still to be announced, as it stands the i10 N Line gets a gutsy 1.0 litre petrol engine with power of 100 PS as well as twin exhaust pipes and 16 inch rims. Like the top-of-the-range Kia Picanto GT-Line S, the i10 N Line is a tidy looking machine indeed, and heaps of fun on the road.

Step inside the new i10 and you’ll find blue mood lamps in the front seats, an 8 inch touchscreen, and wireless phone charging capabilities.

Meanwhile Hyundai says the i10 is now more ‘technologically advanced’ than ever, coming with a 4.2-inch LCD info cluster, USB sockets in the front and rear, and over-the-air map updates for the sat nav.

The i10 should also remain one of the safest cars in the category, too.

Standard fit equipment includes a forward collision warning and assist system, as well as lane keep assist, lane departure warning, a rear view camera, and ‘rear occupant alert’ - which reminds the driver to check the back seat for occupants after the ignition is turned off.

Customers who lease the Hyundai i10 enjoy a 252 litre boot - which is larger than the Toyota Aygo X and the Fiat 500.

Hyundai says the new i10 goes into production in April this year with the first vehicles set to arrive in Europe in the second half of the year.

If you can’t wait until then, you can lease a Hyundai i10 with Select Car Leasing from just £184 per month*.
