By ‘eck, it’s a new £275,000 supercar from Yorkshire!

  • New Ginetaa Akula super coupe revealed
  • 6.4-litre V8 engine provides 600 bhp
  • Priced from £275,000
  • Huge 473-litre boot makes it more practical than a VW Golf

Motorsport specialists Ginetta has revealed a new continent-crossing 600 bhp supercar called the Akula.

Yorkshire’s Ginetta, headquartered in Garforth, just outside Leeds, are best known for building vehicles to tackle GT racing circuits.

But the Akula is a road-going, mid-engined, rear-wheel drive, two-door coupe that has been built to deliver ‘unsurpassed levels of driver engagement and enjoyment’ whether you’re on the track or on the road.

It’s priced from £275,000 and just 20 examples of the Akula will be created.

The Akula, first glimpsed as a concept back in 2019, is powered by a 6.4-litre naturally aspirated V8 engine that musters 600 bhp at 7,200 rpm and 670 Nm of torque at 5,100 rpm.

That’s enough to see the Akula accelerating from 0-62 mph in just 2.9 seconds, which is on a par with the Maserati MC20. Unlike the Maserati, however, with the Akula you also get a generous 473-litre boot and a 450-mile driving range, which transforms it into a ‘proper, long-distance tourer’, says Ginetta.

Customers can spec their Akula with either a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed dual-clutch auto box.

And Ginetta says a limited-slip differential ‘ensures optimum traction even when that trip to a track day at Spa turns into a deluge’.

Opt for the additional ‘Race Pack’ and you also get carbon ceramic brakes and a six-point Ginetta racing safety seat harness.

A Ginetta steel motorsport roll cage is par for the course while the aero bodykit is derived from the Ginetta G61-LT-P1 LMP1 race car and combines a carbon fibre flat floor with a front splitter, turning vanes, rear wing, and rear diffuser.

The entire thing weighs just 1,190 kg while a perfect 50:50 weight distribution should make it a real weapon in the twisties.

Besides all of the race-inspired equipment, you can also expect creature comforts such as a touchscreen infotainment system with iOS integration, a heated front windscreen, and wireless phone charging.

Dr Lawrence Tomlinson, Ginetta Owner and Chairman, said: “At Ginetta, we focus on the thrill of driving and the visceral experience of piloting a car that performs like a racing machine. Anyone can build a fast car, but at Ginetta, we create vehicles that leave their drivers breathless and wanting to drive them again and again. Unlike anything else on the road, the Akula is designed and engineered to be driven to, around, and back from a track like the Nürburgring, having the luggage space to do so, while delivering an unmatched intense and engaging driving experience, every step of the journey.”

I got a new Peugeot 3008 and I'm really happy with it. Taylor Allen was my leasing specialist and he was great. He explained everything to me clearly and was always ready to help when I had questions. He provided a friendly, efficient and professional service that is very impressive. I would highly recommend Taylor, and Select Car Leasing.
