Focus ST Edition - the ‘most complete’ Ford hot hatch ever?

Soon to be consigned to history, a new ‘ST Edition’ of the brilliant Ford Focus ensures this hatch ain’t going out without a fight.

Back in 2022, Ford announced that production of the Focus - as we know it - would cease in 2025 as it pivots to electric vehicles.

But the Focus is refusing to be led away quietly.

This is the new ‘ST Edition’, and it’s Ford’s attempt to remind us all of what we’ll soon be missing. Ford describes it as the ‘ultimate in usable and practical performance’.

It essentially sees Ford taking the regular Focus ST hatchback and throwing the kitchen sink at it in terms of additional packs.

What you’re left with is a car that’s as adept on the racetrack as it is comfortable on the school run, coming with a B&O sound system alongside performance coilover suspension and oversize Brembo brakes.

A Ford spokesperson said: “Focus ST Edition is as comfortable getting owners to a track day as it is capable when it gets there, with the most popular option packs from the Focus ST range included as standard for quick getaways on frozen winter mornings, effortless highway cruising and premium audio for road trip soundtracks.”

It’s priced from £42,905, and you can lease the Ford Focus ST Edition with Select Car Leasing from £636 per month*.

Power remains the same as for the regular Focus ST - 280 PS courtesy of a 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine that’ll accelerate the ST from 0-62 mph in 5.7 seconds. A six-speed manual gearbox is standard.

On the outside, you get a unique Azura Blue exterior with gloss back details. But there’s much more going on underneath the skin.

The two-way adjustable coilover suspension was fettled at Germany’s Nürburgring Nordschleife race circuit and means the ST Edition sits 10 mm lower compared with a normal Focus ST. Spring rates are increased by more than 50 per cent compared with the standard ST. There are also lightweight 19-inch alloys.

And then there are all the creature comforts, including the B&O audio set-up with subwoofer, heated steering wheel, heated windscreen, and a bunch of driver assistance and safety systems, including adaptive cruise control and cross traffic alert.

Stefan Muenzinger, Ford Performance manager, Europe, adds: “The new Focus ST Edition represents the best of Ford Performance in a usable, everyday package. Sports Technologies mean drivers don’t have to compromise on versatility but can still enjoy the thrill of a track day.”

Get ‘em while they’re hot, and while you still can.
