Fiat hands more power to the 600 Hybrid

  • New 136 hp powertrain available with Fiat 600 Hybrid lease
  • Joins the existing 100 hp hybrid engine
  • Capable of accelerating from 0-62 mph in 8.5 seconds
  • Available to lease now with Select

The highly-likeable Fiat 600 Hybrid just got even more tempting after being given a hefty power boost.

The Fiat 600 Hybrid is, as the name suggests, the hybrid sibling to the fully-electric Fiat 600e.

Up until now, the 600 Hybrid has been available to lease with a relatively modest but still capable 100 hp powertrain.

Now, though, Fiat has introduced a new 136 hp hybrid engine which means it’ll accelerate from 0-62 mph in a brisk 8.5 seconds.

It’s an update that ensures the Fiat 600 Hybrid keeps pace with competitors like the Nissan Juke and Ford Puma. And it’ll also be welcomed by lease customers who need to get up to motorway speeds in a hurry.

The engine is coupled with a clever electrified six-speed dual clutch automatic transmission (e-DCT6). A permanent magnet synchronous electric motor is integrated into the gearbox and produces peak power of 28 hp and maximum torque of 55 Nm on its own.

And you can expect fuel economy well in excess of 50 miles to the gallon, whichever power output you prefer.

The other trick the Fiat 600 Hybrid pulls off is that, unlike some other mild hybrids, it’s capable of motoring using electricity alone.

A Fiat spokesperson explains: “For driving that includes urban streets, country roads and motorways, the Fiat 600 Hybrid’s petrol engine and electric motor operate together or separately to optimise energy consumption and performance. The powertrain is particularly effective in city traffic, as the electric motor allows short distances (up to 1km) to be driven on electric power alone under low torque requirements (e.g., when manoeuvring or under 18mph in urban traffic).”

As before, the 600 Hybrid is available to lease in two different trims - the regular 600 Hybrid and the range-topping La Prima.

Entry-level models get 17-inch alloys, heated front seats and a 10-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto.

The La Prima variants get larger 18-inch alloys, plush eco-leather seats, adaptive cruise control, and wireless phone charging.
