This is the new Ferrari SP-8 - and no, you can’t have one!
Based on the now discontinued Ferrari F8 Spider, the SP-8 is a ‘Special Projects’ one off that’s been built specifically for a discerning client.
And you can expect the mid-rear-engined beauty to have cost a whole heap more than the regular F8 Spider’s £226,00 asking price.
The SP-8 is something of a celebration of the firm’s 3.9-litre V8 twin-turbo engine, which Ferrari says is ‘one of the most critically-acclaimed power units in history and the winner of the prestigious Engine of the Year (IEOTY) award on four consecutive occasions’.
Power of 720 PS should be more than ample.
The SP-8 also gets the ‘dipped head-first into a barrel of paint’ look that you might also have seen on the Ferrari 296 GTB.
There’s no roof - at all - so we can’t imagine the SP-8 being much fun in soggy Blighty.
But Ferrari says it’s a ‘thoroughbred two-seater roadster in every respect, underscoring its sporty character and the instantly exhilarating visual and en plein air driving experience it delivers’.
When it comes to the styling, the unpainted carbon-fibre front wraps around to the tail, creating a two-tone effect, while the rear has been completely redesigned compared with the F8 Spider.
There’s a cast aluminium grille made from a single, 3D-printed mould at the front, while the lights at the rear have actually been borrowed from the gorgeous Ferrari Roma.
Meanwhile the cabin gets laser-etched Navy Blue Alcantara upholstery.
Before making its way to its lucky owner, the SP-8 will be on display at both the Mugello Circuit near Florence, Italy, and the Ferrari Museum in Maranello.
A Ferrari spokesperson tells us: “The SP-8 one-off joins the hallowed ranks of the most exclusive segment in the Ferrari range, unique cars crafted around individual clients’ specifications, with the result that they embody the very pinnacle of Prancing Horse customisation.”
