Meet the family-friendly new Ferrari Purosangue

This is the new Ferrari Purosangue - a pragmatic four-door crossover that could be the ultimate school-run vehicle.

This is an historic car for Ferrari, being the first in the manufacturer’s 75 year history to boast four seats and four doors.

It’s perhaps the Italian firm’s answer to the likes of the Lamborghini Urus, Aston Martin DBX and Bentley Bentayga SUVs.

The Purosangue is more compact, less SUV-like than those other models, but it appeals to the same sort of demographic - those who want ballistic performance alongside the ability to pack the kids off to class in the morning.

You get a 473 litre boot - just slightly less luggage space than with the Porsche Panamera - which is the largest ever fitted to a Ferrari.

There are also rear-hinged passenger doors ‘to allow people to get in and out of the car as smoothly as possible’ and a raised driving height for better visibility. Heated seats front and rear as well as a high-end Burmester audio system are also fitted as standard.

So far, so sensible.

And yet despite all of that functionality, the Purosangue Prancing Horse is still, at its heart, a true thoroughbred as well as a continent-crossing grand tourer.

Power of 725 PS and 716 Nm of torque comes courtesy of a whopping-great, mid-front mounted 6.5 litre V12 engine that’s naturally-aspirated and free from any hybrid wizardry.

Acceleration of 0-62mph goes by in just 3.3 seconds while the eight-speed, dual clutch transmission and cylinder heads are derived from the 812 Competizione.

Ferrari calls the ‘soundtrack’ of that V12 ‘nothing short of jaw-dropping’ - and looking at the stats, they’re probably bang on the money.

A Ferrari spokesperson tells us that the Purosangue should handle well, too, thanks to active suspension from Canadian specialists Multimatic.

They add:

“The Purosangue is Ferrari's first ever four-door, four seater car, marrying increased space with the company's famed performance

“Now the answer is here, in all its four-wheel drive, front-engine glory, with more power than any other car in the Crossover segment. Designed to be as aerodynamic as possible, the Purosangue features a raft of innovations, from the latest in vehicle dynamic control systems to the world debut of Ferrari active suspension technology using Multimatic’s True Active Spool Valve (TASV) System.”

Sustainability is a key watchword for Ferrari with the Purosangue. The roof lining is made from recycled polyester, the carpets derived from recycled fishing nets, and the Alcantara also comes from recycled polyester. The plush cabin gets a 10.2 inch infotainment screen.

A Ferrari spokesperson says:

“With handling and performance completely unprecedented in a car of this size and shape, combined with Ferrari’s signature iconic style seen in its GT cars, it's fair to say the Purosangue is truly a car like no other.”

The Purosangue is expected to cost from £350,00 when it arrives in the UK next year.

The Lambo Urus starts at around £170,000, while the Aston Martin DBX costs from £162,000 to buy outright.

This is the first car that I have leased. Having spoken to a number of car leasing companies, Chris S provided the best customer service and dealt with the order in a professional, transparent and efficient manner. I would have no hesitation in recommending Select Car Leasing to my friends, family and colleagues.
