‘Enhanced’ new VW ID.3 breaks cover

This is the all-new Volkswagen ID.3 - fresh for 2023 and with ‘enhanced quality’ but the same ‘likeable’ personality, according to the manufacturer.

It’s fair to say that the electric hatchback has been something of a smash hit since it first became available to lease back in 2020.

And while this facelift is more of a nip and a tuck than a dramatic overhaul, it’s a significant milestone for the plug-in trailblazer.

The basics of the ID.3 remain the same as before - you can choose from either a 58 kWh battery or larger 77kWh unit, with range between charges varying from 265 miles to 339 miles, as a maximum.

The ‘Pro Performance’ models also unlock power of 204 PS and a 0-62mph acceleration time of just 7.3 seconds, which isn’t too shabby at all.

What’s new for the ID.3 is the way it looks, both inside and out, with VW talking about a ‘sharpened exterior and refined interior design’.

There’s a new front bumper, which works to make the bonnet appear longer, while VW says it has also optimised the aerodynamics by improving the air flow around the front wheels.

At the back, there are two-part tail lights for the first time.

You’ll find new materials and colours to be enjoyed in the cabin, as well as remodelled interior door trims.

The ID.3 also enjoys VW’s ‘Electric Vehicle Route Planner’ software, which automatically calculates the charging stops you’ll need when you set off on a longer journey.

It also uses current traffic information to make sure you never fall short of a charging station - and can even spot when a charger is occupied before swerving it altogether so that you don’t spend ages hanging around for it to become free.

Kai Grünitz, Member of the Brand Board of Management responsible for Development at VW, says: “With the new ID.3 we are bringing premium technologies into the compact class – in line with our Volkswagen goal of successively offering innovations in the whole model range. This is also reflected in the latest-generation convenience and assist systems in the ID.3. By using swarm data in the Travel Assist system, we are taking the next step on the path to highly automated driving.”

VW will start building the new ID.3 in the autumn of this year - but in the meantime you can lease it from just £311 per month* with Select Car Leasing.

I could not recommend Select enough and the amazing service I had from my consultant Shane Newton. Shane regularly updated me on progress of my new vehicle, and was always so helpful in answering any queries I had regarding my order throughout the whole process - no question was silly - he always responded promptly whether that be through email or phone call. I just received my new vehicle last week, and Shane was in contact right away to ensure the handover was seamless and that I was happy with my new vehicle! Needless to say I was very happy with the earlier than anticipated delivery - Christmas has came early! This is my second vehicle with Select and yet another excellent service. I could not fault anything and want to thank Shane once again for all of his help!
