- DS No.8 revealed in full
- Electric SUV coupe has 466-mile max range
- Will compete with Tesla, BMW, Audi and Polestar
- Luxurious interior is designed for comfort
This is the sleek new DS No.8 - and it’s an electric SUV coupe that could tempt you away from Tesla, BMW, Audi and Polestar.
Well, that’s the DS plan anyway, with the French manufacturer making a move into more upmarket territory.
The No.8 - think Chanel No.5 - is the firm’s incoming flagship. It’ll arrive in the middle of 2025 with an anticipated range of up to 466 miles between charges.
If that figure sounds impressive, it really is. By our calculations, it’ll place the DS No.8 second in the Top 10 list of EVs with the longest range currently available.
That long distance capability comes courtesy of the DS’s aerodynamic shape as well as some clever air-flow tech, including air intakes with moving flaps integrated into the front bumper.
The No.8 will be available with two or four-wheel drive and power of up to 350 hp, which gives it the ability to accelerate from 0-62 mph in just 5.4 seconds.
Besides how far it can travel, another one of the No.8’s strong points is its plush ‘Active Scan Suspension’ system, which is fitted as standard. Variable damping is linked to a camera positioned at the top of the windscreen. It constantly analyses the road surface and adjusts the suspension settings accordingly to give the No.8 ‘amazing handling and comfort’, says DS.
Size wise, the DS No.8 is 4.82m long, 1.90m wide and 1.58m tall, which makes it ever so slightly longer and slightly less tall than the Tesla Model Y.
There’s an illuminated front grille and 3D patterns inside the tapered rear lights. Two-tone paint with a ‘Deep Black’ colour on the bonnet and roof is easy on the eye, too.
A ‘refined’ and ‘serene’ interior has been built with luxury in mind. There’s brushed aluminium, pearl stitching on the dashboard and armrests, and Nappa leather watchstrap upholstery.
There’s also ‘Lightblade’ interior lighting and backlit graphics ‘inspired by a starlit sky’, says DS.
The front seats are massaging, cooled and heated while you can spec the No.8 with an integrated neck warmer fitted into the backrests.
Lease customers can enjoy a 16-inch touchscreen, panoramic glass roof and 14-speaker sound system from French audio specialist FOCAL.
A heat pump - which helps to maximise range - is fitted as standard while you also get a huge 620-litre boot.
There’s a full suite of safety tech including semi-automatic lane changing and adaptive cruise control.
Agnès Tesson-Faget, DS Automobiles Product Director, saidL: “DS No.8, our brand’s new 100% electric flagship, offers absolute comfort without compromising dynamic handling, with unrivalled electric efficiency in the class and safety at the highest level.”
Pricing and full specs will be announced in 2025. The DS No.8 will join the manufacturer's line-up alongside the plug-in hybrid DS9 saloon.
