DS has become the first manufacturer in Europe to fit its cars with ChatGPT artificial intelligence.
The popular chatbot was always likely to make the jump from the internet to the automotive world.
And DS has stolen a march on rivals by getting in there first.
If you’re not familiar with ChatGPT, it makes use of language models to understand and generate a ‘natural and fluid interaction’ in response to questions.
Here - in the DS 3, DS 4, DS 7 and flagship DS 9 saloon - ChatGPT will work in conjunction with the voice-controlled ‘DS Iris System’, where you can say, ‘OK Iris’ to wake it up.
So, it’s similar to asking Google a question via voice command, or even Amazon Alexa.
Why would you want to do that while you’re driving, we hear you ask?
Well, a DS spokesperson tells us: “For example, drivers will be able to ask it for the most beautiful cultural or artistic places to visit during a trip to Bordeaux, to list the most beautiful works kept at the Louvre Museum, to invent a quiz on their favourite subject, or even to create a children's story during a trip.”
Or, you might ask which is the best chippy in Brighton, or how your favourite team is going to get on in its next match. Whatever floats your boat.
ChatGPT will be offered at no extra cost for six months to the first 20,000 registered users.
And the hope is that it’ll become the benchmark ‘digital assistant devoted to the travel experience’.
