There’s no windscreen, no doors, and no windows. Heck, there isn’t even any air in the tyres.
But for a car that’s lacking bits other vehicles possess, the Dacia ‘Manifesto’ concept car has still got plenty of ‘cool’ to go around.
Dacia is in the midst of a gentle repositioning as a brand. The main principles are still there - i.e., being affordable for the masses and efficient to run.
Dacia also wants its cars to be ‘essential but cool, robust, built for outdoor activities’. The Jogger estate is a decent embodiment of that approach, being a stylish seven-seater that looks as if it would stand up to the rigours of a long weekend in the mountains.
And now Dacia has unveiled the ‘Manifesto’ - the ultimate outdoors-machine where there are ‘no barriers between the passengers and the environment’.
So, yeah, let’s hope it’s not raining or snowing. And let’s hope there’s no swarm of mozzies. Because without a windshield or doors, you’ll probably want to wrap up.
The boot can be a handy work surface and the removable seat coverings double as sleeping bags. There are modular roof bars, too.
Alongside the running light strip at the front of the Manifesto, there’s just the one headlight, which can be removed and used as a powerful torch.
Meanwhile the entire thing is waterproof - including the cork-covered dash - meaning you can jet-wash the Manifesto inside and out when it’s covered in muck.
While there’s no info about the powertrain, the Manifesto is all-wheel-drive and has a high ride height for off-road use.
Dacia has also given the Manifesto innovative ‘airless tyres’ which aren’t just puncture-proof, they could also last the entire lifetime of the vehicle.
Lionel Jaillet, Dacia Product Performance Director, said:
“We want to build a range of products that strengthens our brand promise, focusing on the essentials and adapting our vehicles for outdoor activities. Beyond our models, we are also working on innovative features that match our customers’ needs and lifestyles even more closely.
“Manifesto Concept is a ‘lab’ to try out and mock up new ideas. The version you can see today will keep on evolving as we keep on exploring! So don’t miss the next models: they will be ever smarter, ever more tailored to outdoor activities and ever more Dacia!”
