Dacia set to launch its first ever hybrid

Dacia has lifted the lid on a ‘shockingly affordable’ new hybrid version of its Jogger SUV-estate - the firm’s first-ever hybrid model.

Order books are open now on the ‘Jogger HYBRID 140’ - which Dacia says is ‘the best value seven-seat hybrid available’, with prices starting at £22,595 to purchase outright.

Dacia is part of the Renault Group, so the hybrid powertrain the new Jogger boasts is actually similar to the ‘E-Tech’ hybrid engine found in the Renault Clio.

Like the Renault Clio E-Tech, the Jogger HYBRID 140 is a self-charging hybrid, which never needs to be plugged in.

You get a traditional 1.6-litre petrol engine allied to twin electric motors, clutchless transmission and a 1.2kWh battery.

Dacia says the drivetrain produces a ‘highly usable’ 140 hp enabling a respectable 0-62 mph acceleration time of 10.1 seconds. CO2 emissions are relatively low, too, reaching up to 112g/km, while the Dacia Jogger hybrid will also return around 56.5 mpg.

To put that into perspective, the regular 1.0 petrol engine Jogger will return around 48 mpg - so you’re getting much better fuel economy with the hybrid, as well as more power.

A Dacia spokesperson says:

“Regenerative braking, combined with the high energy recovery of the 1.2 kWh (230V) battery allow the Jogger HYBRID 140 to spend up to 80 per cent of its time on urban roads in full-electric mode, thereby saving up to 40 per cent on fuel compared to an equivalent petrol-only model.
“Better still, this technology ensures customers can enjoy significant savings without altering the way they drive as there’s no requirement to plug it in to charge.”

The Jogger was already a pretty damned good leasing option, even before the launch of this hybrid model.

It’s the most affordable new seven-seater available in the UK, and has also won a clutch of industry awards, including the 'Value Car of the Year' gong at the News UK Motor Awards 2022.

That third row of seats can also be completely removed, creating a gargantuan 700 litres of boot space.

Meanwhile entry-level ‘Expression’ models come loaded with front and rear parking sensors, reversing camera, blind spot warning, keyless entry and an infotainment system with an 8-inch media display.

Lionel Jaillet, Dacia VP Product Performance said:

“Less than a year after the launch of the Jogger, we are taking a new step by presenting another version of the model with a HYBRID 140 engine.
“It’s a clutchless hybrid, offering an all-electric start and reduction in fuel consumption. The Jogger HYBRID 140 represents Dacia’s position perfectly – it is the most accessible hybrid family vehicle on the market, offering generous interior space as well as all the essential features. By incorporating this engine, Dacia has taken the leap with hybrid technology.”
