Looking for a slightly more sedate Cupra Leon? You’re in luck - two more frugal engines are about to join the line-up.
The Cupra Leon is a hot-hatch version of the regular Seat Leon. Cupra is, after all, a former off-shoot of Seat and now a standalone brand owned by the Volkswagen Group.
Up until now, you could enjoy the Cupra Leon with a choice of two regular petrol engines and a plug in hybrid - none of ‘em not what you’d call shrinking violets.
You had a choice of either 245 PS or a whopping 300 PS. The latter of those two mills will catapult you from 0-62mph in just 5.7 seconds - which makes it as rapid as a
Now, though, Cupra is about to introduce two new petrol engines into the mix - a 1.5-litre TSI generating power of 150 PS and a 2.0-litre TSI with grunt of 190 PS.
That goes for both the Leon hatchback and the uber-practical Leon Estate.
The 150PS unit will be available with both manual and DSG-auto gearboxes, while the 190PS unit will be available exclusively with a DSG-auto gearbox.
And they should conspire to bring your monthly leasing bill down, as well as how much fuel you burn through.
Kai Vogler, Vice-president for Sales and Marketing at Cupra, says:
“The Cupra Leon is already a king on the road, but we’re always developing the vehicle to maximise the offering for our customers, making it more customisable and grow its sales targets. With the introduction of these engines, our ambition is to achieve a big success with the Cupra Leon, as we have done with the Formentor.”
The good news doesn’t stop there.
Cupra is also enhancing its entry level ‘V1’ Leon models so that you get more kit as standard. In a world being nibbled at from all corners by the cost of living crisis, that’s welcome indeed.
From October on, V1 Leon models will feature 18 inch black and silver alloys, LED headlights, an infotainment system with 12 inch touchscreen, a rear diffuser and twin exhaust pipes, and clever predictive and adaptive cruise control.
As it strands, you can lease a Cupra Leon from around £273 per month*.
