Citroen C5 Aircross gets new mild hybrid engine

Citroen has introduced a new mild hybrid powertrain for its C5 Aircross SUV - giving lease customers even more choice.

The C5 Aircross is an eye-catching SUV with funky exterior styling and which acts as a rival to lease cars like the SEAT Ateca, Volkswagen Tiguan, Nissan Qashqai and the Peugeot 3008.

Up until now it has been available with a choice of traditional petrol and diesel engines, or with a powerful plug-in hybrid.

Now, though, Citroen has introduced a new option - the mild hybrid, 48 volt ‘Hybrid 136’ powertrain - which the French manufacturer reckons improves fuel economy by up to 30% in urban use.

The system marries a petrol engine with a 21kW electric motor to produce power of 136 hp. It emits 129g of CO2/km, which Citroen says is 15% less than the equivalent non-electrified petrol C5 Aircross derivative.

And that’s an important consideration, particularly if you’re considering the Citroen C5 Aircross as a company car, because it means you’ll pay less Benefit in Kind (BIK) tax.

While the mild hybrid mill isn’t available with the entry-level ‘Sense Plus’ trim, you can lease it with ‘Shine’ or ‘e-Series’ models.

The Shine variants get 18-inch alloys, automatic LED headlights, a 10-inch touchscreen with sat nav, roof bars, and a ton of driver assistance systems, including adaptive cruise control and active safety brake.

The e-Series trim unlocks larger 19-inch rims, a panoramic glass sunroof, an uprated interior with heated ‘Comfort’ seats, and more safety tech, including ‘Active Lane Keeping Assist’ for when you’re cruising on the highway.

Whichever model you choose, you can expect a plush ride, with Citroen being specialists when it comes to pothole-cancelling suspension.

You can lease the Citroen C5 Aircross with Select Car Leasing from just £318 per month*.

And don’t forget that the C5 is a bona fide award winner. Last year it scooped the coveted ‘Best large SUV for value’ prize at the What Car? Car of the Year Awards 2022.

Judges at What Car? commented: “Strengths of the Citroën C5 Aircross include generous space for five and hushed cruising manners, but it’s the sheer value it offers that really sets it apart. Simply put, it gives you a heck of a lot for your money.”

A really professional and amazing experience from beginning to end. I feel I got a great deal on the car and good options available in terms of spec, not just a standard model. Sam was amazing throughout the process, although there were some challenges along the way, Sam was excellent in terms of follow up and communication, and went above and beyond to get the car ordered and delivered. Thank you select team.
