There’s a ‘bold new look’ for the Citroen C5, as the French firm unveils a facelifted version of its family-sized SUV.
The C5 Aircross first launched in the UK back in 2019 and sits between the smaller C4 and the larger C5 X SUV-estate crossover in the Citroen range.
A rival to the Nissan Qashqai, Volkswagen Tiguan, and Peugeot 3008, the Citroen C5 Aircross is available with a host of traditional petrol and diesel powertrains, as well as a frugal plug-in hybrid that offers up to 38 miles of range using electricity alone.
So, what’s new for 2022?
The first thing to note is the styling.
There’s a brand new front end, with a fresh V-shaped LED light signature.
Citroen tells us how the ‘upright front grille adds to the robust stance of the vehicle’ while the rear also gets a more ‘angular’ design, too. All in all, then, the C5 Aircross looks more sturdy and purposeful than before.
As before, the C5 Aircross gets Citroen’s ‘Advanced Comfort Suspension’ as standard as well as ‘Comfort’ seats and a cabin that’s been designed to eke-out every last inch of available space.
The all-new C5 Aircross also comes with a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display and a new 10-inch high-definition touchscreen that is positioned higher up on the dashboard before, in a bid to make sure drivers don’t take their eyes off the road while changing radio stations.
The C5 Aircross is available in three trim levels - ‘Sense Plus’, ‘Shine’ and ‘C-Series Edition’. It’s the Shine and C-Series Edition models that are available with the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain.
The 1.2 litre petrol and 1.5 litre diesel units are available with either a manual or automatic gearbox, and offer power of 130 PS each.
It’s the PHEV - which features a 1.6 litre petrol engine and an 80kW electric motor - that’s got the most grunt, coming with power of 225 PS and emissions as low as 32g/km CO2, which slots the C5 Aircross into a Benefit-in-Kind (BIK) tax rate of just 12%.
The entry-level Sense Plus variants enjoy driver assistance and safety features such as Active Safety Brake with video assistance, Collision Risk Alert, Active Lane Departure Warning and Speed Limit Information with Intelligent Speed Adaptation.
The Shine trim adds a ‘Dark Chrome’ colour pack, an uprated interior with Alcantara fabric, as well as Adaptive Cruise Control and blind spot monitoring tech.
Meanwhile the top-of-the-range C-Series Edition models feature an ‘Anodised Bronze’ colour pack, a panoramic glass sunroof, larger 19 inch alloys, and ‘Highway Driver Assist’ – which is a level 2 semi-autonomous technology that combines Adaptive Cruise Control with Active Lane Keeping Assist to make motorway journeys more relaxing.
Prices for the new model begin at £26,645, and you can lease a Citroen C5 Aircross with Select for around £280 per month.*
