Road-going Callum Skye revealed

  • ‘Dynamic’ road-going variant of Callum Skye revealed
  • Sibling car to ‘capable’ Callum Skye off-roader
  • Gets 42 kWh battery and 170-mile range
  • Priced from £80,000

British firm Callum has revealed a ‘dynamic’ new road-going variant of its incoming Skye EV.

In case you need a recap, Callum is a UK engineering firm, headquartered in Warwick, founded by former Aston Martin and Jaguar designer Ian Callum.

While Callum has produced lots of different products across various sectors it has never created its own car from the ground up - until now.

And this is it, the all-wheel drive, four-seat, dune buggy-esque Callum Skye.

The Skye will be available in two distinct guises. This ‘dynamic’ model is designed for everyday use and gets road-going wheels and an enclosed cockpit.

The ‘capable’ variant (below), to be fully revealed next year, gets a jacked-up ride height, knobbly tyres, and what promises to be some serious off-road skills.

The Skye will cost from £80,000 to purchase outright, which puts it firmly into the ‘luxury’ end of the market. That’s despite it not having a particularly large battery, at 42 kWh, and a range of around 170 miles between charges.

It will, however, be quick and capable of accelerating from 0-60 mph in ‘under four seconds’, according to Callum. Ultra-fast charging could result in a full charge in under ten minutes while the Skye also weighs just 1,150kg - which is lean indeed for an EV.

Callum is also hoping that its premium interior, finished with hand-selected materials, will attract punters.

Aleck Jones, head of design at Callum, says: “While the Callum Skye is capable and has a rugged exterior, the interior design is carefully and considerately refined to deliver a premium feel at every touchpoint. Clever design solutions keep the interior simple but not simplistic, giving it a light, airy and refined feel while being within a compact cabin. Its success is down to its careful balance of opposing factors, baked into an exterior that people understand and enjoy.”

In the centre of the cabin, a sleek ‘blade-like’ console houses the switchgear and creates a dramatic line running between the two front seats.

Even the glove box is trimmed in Bridge of Weir leather while ‘deconstructed tartan’ has been digitally printed onto the leather on the door cards and centre console.

Configurators are open now.

As a first time customer to lease a car I have been extremely impressed with the whole experience. The staff at Select Leasing are excellent. They are so helpful and knowledgeable and kept me updated and informed all through the process. I would certainly recommend them if you are considering going down the route of 'leasing' your next vehicle.
