The Suffolk Office of Select Car Leasing enjoyed a night of celebration at an end of season awards event held by a local football team it sponsors.
Last year the Select Car Leasing Bury St Edmunds office began sponsoring Sporting 87 Football Club, who play at the town’s Victory Ground.
The club has three adult teams competing in the Macron Suffolk and Ipswich League (SIL).
And the season just gone was a special one for Sporting, with the First Team playing in the senior division for the first time in its history.
Select Car Leasing Bury St Edmunds Principal Alan Beckett (below, right) was presented with a commemorative gift at the annual dinner - a framed compilation of match day programmes from Sporting 87’s first season in the full senior adult league - as thanks for the continued sponsorship.
Meanwhile Sporting star Luca Taylor Footer was awarded both ‘First Team Player’s Player of the Year’ and the ‘First Team Managers Player of the Year’ prizes.
Select’s Alan Beckett said: “Sporting 87 is a fantastic football club that gives people the opportunity to play the beautiful game, no matter their experience, ability level, or age. With such a welcoming and inclusive ethos, we’re delighted to be associated with Sporting 87 and proud to be sponsors. It has been fantastic to be part of Sporting 87’s first taste of football in the senior adult league this season, and we’ll be backing them, applauding them from the side lines, as they continue that journey next season.”
Guest speaker at the Sporting 87 Adults Awards Dinner was former professional player Michael Johnson (below), who played 262 times for Birmingham City and a further 138 times for Derby County.
The ex-defender is now an Under-18s coach with England at St George’s Park.
Select Car Leasing Bury St Edmunds sponsored the Sporting 87 First Team dug-out, as well as taking-out pitch side advertising and Matchday promotions.
Sporting 87 currently has more than 600 children and 100 adults enjoying football on a weekly basis, with participant ages ranging from ‘3 to 73’, according to the club.
The teams - male and female - cover all abilities and even include walking football.
Select Car Leasing Bury St Edmunds was launched in 2020.
Prior to that, in 2001, Alan Beckett and fellow director Tony Davis had established ‘Genus Leasing’ to provide cars and vans to both businesses and personal customers.
Over the course of two decades, Genus grew from a small office attached to the side of Tony’s house, to becoming a regional Appointed Representative of Select Car Leasing, with a key emphasis on providing a high level of service that creates clients for life.
