Got a spare £3.2 million quid burning a hole in your pocket? You’ll need to check out the astonishing new Bugatti Tourbillon.
You’re looking at one of the world’s most desirable plug-in hyper hybrids and the successor to the Bugatti Chiron.
The two-seat Tourbillon has also broken cover 20 years after the iconic Bugatti Veyron was first unleashed on the world.
And we’ll let the Tourbillon’s stats speak for themselves.
It’s powered by an 8.3-liter naturally aspirated V16 engine - engineered with the help of Cosworth - and paired with a front e-Axle with two electric motors and one electric motor mounted at the rear axle.
They all combine to produce eye-watering power of 1,800 hp - and the electric motors alone produce 800 hp of that total.
A Bugatti spokesperson tells us: “It’s an extraordinary achievement – delivered thanks to a host of cutting-edge materials and technology – given the Veyron achieved 1,001 hp from its 8.0-litre capacity engine with four turbochargers, and the new V16 is completely naturally aspirated. Constructed from lightweight materials, the engine weighs just 252 kg.”
Top speed is an astonishing 276 mph.
The Tourbillon will accelerate from 0-62 mph in just 2.0 seconds, which trumps other plug-in hypercars like the Ferrari SF90 XX Stradale or Lamborghini Revuelto.
The torque figures are, quite frankly, ridiculous. The petrol engine makes 900 Nm, the two motors on the front axle produce 3,000 Nm at the wheels, and the rear motor adds 240 Nm.
And because the Tourbillon is packing a generous 24.8 kWh battery, you also get a range of up to 37 miles using electricity alone. Talk about the best of all worlds.
There are tech innovations throughout.
The rear wing adds downforce while also working as an airbrake under rapid deceleration. The dihedral doors allow easy entry while also offering a ‘dramatic sense of arrival’, says Bugatti. And the Tourbillon’s 3D-printed suspension parts also add to the allure.
Meanwhile the cabin is delightfully old school as Bugatti aimed to replicate the timelessness of expensive wristwatches.
Digital screens take a back seat while gorgeous analogue dials take centre stage behind crystal glass, with the instrument cluster designed and built with the expertise of Swiss watchmakers while incorporating titanium, sapphires and rubies.
There is a modern touchscreen, but it’s hidden until you want it to pop-up out of the centre console.
Emilio Scervo, Bugatti CTO, said: “We wanted someone to be able to take any piece of this car, from inside, outside or under the skin, and believe that it could be placed in an art gallery. The result is a car which is beautiful inside and outside, the most powerful Bugatti to date which simultaneously elevates mechanical fascination and technical beauty to a whole new level.”
A total of 250 examples will be built, with a starting price of 3.8m Euros - or £3,200,800m in pounds.
