Here’s the new BMW X5 M Competition and X6 M Competition, fresh for 2023.
And the pair of performance Beemers now boast aggressive new exterior styling as well as the addition of mild-hybrid tech for the powertrain.
Earlier this month we brought you news of an update to the regular X5 and X6.
In case you’re not familiar with the cars, the X6 adopts a more coupe-like, sloping rear end compared with its more SUV-shaped X5 sibling.
And now the all-wheel drive X5 and X6 ‘M Competition’ models are enjoying their moment in the limelight.
The power on offer compared with the outgoing X5 M and X6 M remains roughly the same as before - 625hp and 750Nm of torque thanks to a stonking great 4.4 litre V8 engine.
That translates to a 0-62mph time of 3.9 seconds, and a top speed of 155 mph, for both models. The max speed can be raised to 180 mph with the optional ‘M Driver’s Pack’.
But what’s new with this facelift is the addition of a 48V mild-hybrid system that sits in the housing of the eight-speed M Steptronic transmission.
And BMW says it delivers an additional 12 hp and 200 Nm of torque. Every little helps, as they say.
The gear ratios have also been modified to offer a ‘sharper shift action, with shorter ratios in the first three gears for accelerating off the line’, while overall fuel efficiency has also been improved. You can expect a return of up to 22 miles to the gallon.
The adaptive ‘M’ suspension has been revised to offer ‘greater composure’, with the reworked dampers making subtle adjustments according to body movement, road conditions and steering inputs.
When it comes to the looks of the X5 M Competition and the X6 M Competition, there’s a revised front end complete with a new snarling, flared-nostril kidney grille.
There are also slim LED Matrix headlights, wide-open air intakes and new rear lights, while the interior comfort has been ‘elevated’, according to BMW.
The cabin gets BMW’s eye-catching twin screen ‘Curved Display’, which sits behind a single glass surface, and there’s also a new ambient light bar.
Meanwhile you can also expect an extensive suite of driver assistance and safety technology fitted as standard.
The ‘Driving Assistant’ features front collision warning, evasion assist, alertness checker and rear cross traffic warning with braking function. The Lane Departure Warning function now additionally features lane return with steering assistance, and reacts to oncoming traffic when there is a potential risk of collision.
The Parking Assistant Professional package is also fitted as standard, and which allows the car to slot itself into any space.
You can lease a BMW X5 M with Select Car Leasing from around £1,431 per month, or a BMW X6 M from £1,468 per month*.
