With the Fleet Technology Congress just around the corner, many of the worlds top car manufacturers are getting their models ready to show off to fleet operators the next generation of contract hire cars. Luxury brand BMW is planning to use event to showcase its new groundbreaking i8 sports car.
Fleet Technology Congress To Show Off Future Contract Hire Cars
As one of the first plug-in hybrid sports cars to go on sale in the UK, the i8 uses a host of innovative technologies, including a carbon fibre and aluminium construction and safety features such as autonomous emergency braking and surround view cameras. It has been designed to look like something from the future, which is likely to receive a mixed response.
Confirming that the model will be on display at the Fleet Technology Congress, BVRLA Chief Executive Gerry Keaney said, Rental and leasing companies will no doubt be keen to see the technology under the skin of this revolutionary sports car as it will gradually filter down and become standard on mainstream fleet cars in the coming years.
Were delighted that BMW is sponsoring our event, and look forward to giving fleet operators the opportunity to hear from key industry personnel on 1 July.
With a 231hp 1.5-litre petrol engine combined with a 131hp electric motor, the i8 emits just 49g/km CO2 and returns an impressive 134.5mpg. However, it wont be the only vehicle in attendance at the Heritage Motor Centre in July. BMW has also confirmed a number of other models will be on display at the event, including the i3, 435i Luxury Gran Coupe, 218i Active Tourer and X4 crossover, as well as the new F56 MINI.
BMWs Head of Fleet Matt Bristow will also be at the congress to talk about the car manufacturers perspective of the new technology, environment and sociological issues. He will be able to answer any questions you have around how they will work as contract hire cars.
With the advance of electric and hybrid vehicles as well as the slow development of self-driving cars, much of how our behaviour and habits surrounding driving are expected to change over the next decade. These changes will also affect the dynamics of the car leasing industry, but how this is will happen nobody is sure. Many hope the extra connectivity and functions from Google and Apples new in car systems will also aid contract hire cars helping make them safer as well as easier to drive.
