More power for the M4 Competition and new style and tech for the 4 Series Coupe and Convertible - those are the headline stats from BMW’s latest model updates.
BMW has this week revised pretty much all of its 4 Series range, barring the four-door 4 Series Gran Coupe.
And we’re talking subtle tweaks here rather than wholesale changes.
There are new headlights all round, while the M4 Competition Coupe and Convertible get a slight boost in horsepower.
To pick the bones out of what it all means, read on.
BMW 4 Series Coupe and Convertible
The German manufacturer has given its two-door 4 Series Coupe and Convertible a ‘refreshed sporty exterior’ with ‘striking new headlights’ and the option of having Laserlights at the rear.
Adaptive LED Headlights with non-dazzling matrix high beam are available as an option.
BMW has lobbed two new paint schemes into the mix - ‘Cape York Green’ and ‘Fire Red’, both of which are metallic.
And there’s also a new-look BMW kidney grille and black tailpipe finishers as standard.
Inside the cabin you’ll find a new steering wheel, BMW’s large curved display and latest Operating System 8.5 with an upgraded BMW iDrive display, and new contour lighting integrated into the trim around the central seam vents.
When it comes to the powertrains, the choice is fairly simple.
You’ve got two options, both petrol and both supported by mild-hybrid tech, in the form of the 184hp ‘420i’ or the 374hp ‘M440i’. The 420i can be equipped with BMW’s all-wheel drive ‘xDrive’ system, while the potent M440i automatically comes with 4x4 skills.
Front and rear parking sensors are standard fit, as is the BMW ‘Parking Assistant’, which brings you automated manoeuvring in and out of parking spaces.
Prices begin at £43,020 for the Coupé and £49,695 for the Convertible, with customer deliveries expected in the spring.
And you can lease a BMW 4 Series Coupe of Convertible with Select Car Leasing, with prices starting at £468 per month*.
BMW M4 Competition Coupe and Convertible
Like the lesser-powered 4 Series models, the M4 Competition Coupe and Convertible variants now come with new vertical headlights, some optional go-faster stripes, and some tasty new alloy wheel options.
But the big news is that BMW has eked-out more power from the M4’s 3.0-litre twin turbo straight-six engine, taking the oomph from 510hp to 530hp.
Weirdly, that doesn’t actually translate to a quicker 0-62mph acceleration time, with the Coupe covering that distance in 3.5 seconds and the convertible taking a shade longer at 3.7 seconds. Whichever way you look at it, that’s still pretty rapid.
There are some key improvements in the cabin, too.
Like the regular 4 Series, the M4 Competition now comes with BMW’s Operating System 8.5, which is designed to mimic the ease-of-use of a smartphone.
It boasts a huge Curved Display that incorporates a 12.3-inch digital display and 14.9-inch touchscreen into one single display unit.
And a new flat-bottomed steering wheel is also the order of the day.
The BMW M4 Competition Coupé with M xDrive is priced from £84,250 and the BMW M4 Competition Convertible with M xDrive will set you back at least from £88,255.
You can lease the BMW M4 Competition with Select Car Leasing from £918 per month*.
