Best SUV Car Lease Deals for 2021

SUVs continue to soar in popularity in the UK - with a high, commanding view of the road, a variety of different sized options, as well as fantastic monthly prices through personal and business car leasing, it’s not hard to see their appeal.

According to recent industry statistics, SUVs account for almost a third of all cars on UK roads, as the sports utility vehicle puts it foot to the floor and eases past the compact hatchback in terms of sales.

And whether you want a SUV crossover for the school run, one of the medium-sized cars in a class led by the Nissan Qashqai, or a fully-hybrid or electric version to drive home your fuel bill, there’s an SUV lease deal to suit all your needs.

The brains at Select have put their heads together and come up with the very best SUV car lease deals for 2021 - both big and small - which you can order today at the touch of a button. Nissan Qashqai

Car lease price: from £177.59 per month*

The Qashqai kick-started the SUV revolution when it was released back in 2008.

And a decade after it was first spawned, the Qashqai is still one of the most popular vehicles on UK roads, selling more than 25,000 units this year alone, despite a pandemic raging around it.

What you get with a Qashqai is great comfort, excellent ride quality, and class-leading reliability. It’s no off-roader, even though you can get a 4x4 variant, though it is well specced, even in base ‘Visia’ trim, coming with Bluetooth, air-con and cruise control.

There’s a new Qashqai promised for next year, with a plug-in variant expected, but for now there’s no electrified option.

Instead you can choose from a 1.3 litre petrol with an output of either 140 or 160 PS, a 1.5 litre diesel with 110 PS, or a larger 1.7 litre diesel that chucks out 150 PS.

Nissan Qashqai need to knows:

  • Lease Car Category: Medium SUV
  • Select’s Car Review Score: 3.7 out of 5**
  • Boot size: 430 litres
  • Engine Options: Diesel, Petrol
  • NCAP Safety Rating: 5 stars

Volvo XC40

Car lease price: from £271 per month

The XC40 attracts awards like a moth to a flame. Not content with scooping the European Car of the Year award in 2018, it was also crowned New Car of the Year at the Motor Trader 2019 Awards. So what’s the appeal?

The mid-size SUV has a winning mix of dynamic performance, great styling, bulletproof build quality and impeccable safety.

There’s a good spread of efficient engines, the mild-hybrid ‘B4’ petrol producing 197 hp while returning up to 40 miles to the gallon, while the range-topping ‘B5’ - also a mild-hybrid - is less efficient but creates 150 hp.

If you want a proper plug-in hybrid, the XC40 Recharge is the choice for you - while a fully-electric ‘P8’ Recharge is due to start being delivered next year.

Volvo XC40 need to knows:

  • Lease Car Category: Medium SUV
  • Select’s Car Review Score: 4.4 out of 5
  • Boot size: 430 litres
  • Engine Options: Diesel, Petrol, Petrol Plug-In Hybrid, Electric
  • NCAP Safety Rating: 5 stars

Audi Q3

Car lease price: from £303 per month

Whether you want this Audi in normal SUV styling or with a swooping coupe ‘Sportback’ exterior, the Q3 takes some beating.

A rival to the Range Rover Evoque and Jaguar E-Pace, the Q3 is brimming with tech, it’s spacious and it’s also potent if you choose the more powerful engines. A downside is the fact that there’s no hybrid or electric option yet, though with an update due to arrive in 2021, we might not be waiting too much longer for one.

If you’re looking for a sporty ride, the all-wheel-drive 45 TFSI 2.0 litre petrol engine is the one for you, with 230 PS and a 0-62mph time of 6.3 seconds. If you’re looking for better fuel economy, the 35 TDI diesel will return a healthy 40 miles to the gallon.

Audi Q3 need to knows:

  • Lease Car Category: Medium SUV
  • Select’s Car Review Score: 3.9 out of 5
  • Boot size: 530 litres
  • Engine Options: Diesel, Petrol
  • NCAP Safety Rating: 5 stars

Land Rover Discovery Sport

Car lease price: from £284 per month

Updated in August this year, the ever-popular Discovery Sport now features cleaner engines with mild-hybrid technology and there’s a plug-in hybrid version, too.

And while it might be one of the most affordable SUVs in the Land Rover stable, it’s still one of the most impressive.

The PHEV Discovery Sport combines a 3 cylinder, 1.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor to deliver a total power output of around 310 PS.

Meanwhile there’s a newly-introduced clutch of four-cylinder ‘Ingenium’ diesel engines featuring the mild hybrid wizardry.

And then there’s Land Rover’s legendary off-road capability, which allows the Discovery Sport to point it’s front grille at terrain that’d terrify most motorists.

Land Rover Discovery Sport need to knows:

  • Lease Car Category: Large SUV
  • Select’s Car Review Score: 4.1 out of 5
  • Boot size: 963 litres
  • Engine Options: Diesel, Petrol, Petrol Plug-In Hybrid
  • NCAP Safety Rating: 5 stars

SEAT Ateca

Car lease price from £239 per month

The Ateca might be SEAT’s first attempt at a SUV, but with this car they knocked it out of the park on the first try. And it’s an SUV that’s also almost ludicrously affordable.

The Ateca shares the same platform as the VW Tiguan, which is no bad thing at all, and there’s a range of engines available, from a 1.0 petrol to a 2.0 TDI diesel.

For our money, the 1.5 TSI petrol is a safe bet, coming with 148bhp, a 0-60mph time of 8.5 seconds, and a decent fuel economy of up to 44 miles to the gallon.

As for the interior, there’s a sumptuous amount of comfort that belies the price, keeping you content for those longer trips with the family.

All models also come with front and rear parking sensors as standard, while even entry level SE cars get a 8.25in infotainment touchscreen.

SEAT Ateca need to knows:

  • Lease Car Category: Medium SUV
  • Select’s Car Review Score: 4.1 out of 5
  • Boot size: 510 litres
  • Engine Options: Diesel, Petrol
  • NCAP Safety Rating: 5 stars

BMW X3

Car lease price from £415 per month

The all-wheel drive X3 is an imposing, good-looking SUV that should tick a lot of your boxes, particularly when it comes to style.

And don’t be mistaken for thinking it’s small - the new X3 is actually larger than the first generation X5, a car that pretty much invented the idea of a modern road-going off-roader.

Recent improvements have seen the introduction of a new TwinPower Turbo in-line six-cylinder diesel engine, delivering 265hp, a maximum torque of 620Nm, and fuel economy of around 40 miles to the gallon.

There’s also a plug-in hybrid option - the 292hp ‘30e’, which will return a whopping 120 miles to the gallon while running on electric alone for 28 miles.

Meanwhile BMW fans will tell you the X3’s chunky, physical buttons and dials are easier to use than touch sensitive buttons found in other vehicles, which could be a bit of a draw if fiddly screens annoy you.

BMW X3 need to knows:

  • Lease Car Category: Large SUV
  • Select’s Car Review Score: 4.3 out of 5
  • Boot size: 550 litres
  • Engine Options: Diesel, Petrol, Petrol Plug-In Hybrid
  • NCAP Safety Rating: 5 stars

Range Rover Evoque

Car lease price from £290 per month

The king is dead, long live the king. The Range Rover Evoque received a major design overhaul in 2019, the first in its lifetime, to usher in another hugely profitable period for one of Land Rover's biggest success stories. The Evoque is a versatile SUV by trade, doubling up as an excellent luxury car with class-leading technology, and an impressive family car with enough space in the back to cater to all your needs.

There's plenty of choice in the engine department as well. From punchy diesels with enough power in the tank to blow even some performance SUVs out of the water and a well-stocked range of petrols, capable of pushing down running costs to a minimum.

The Evoque added a further string to its bow with the addition both mild-hybrid technology to most of the standard petrol and diesel models and a full petrol plug-in hybrid variant. The latter of which isn't far from being the complete package, with an all electric range of 40 miles it'll get you from A to B with far less refuels than a standard petrol, and with a 0-62mph time of under 7 seconds, it'll do so in style.

The UK loved to lease the Evoque in 2020 and that's certain to continue in 2021 on this incredible value for money SUV.

Range Rover Evoque need to knows:

  • Lease Car Category: Medium SUV
  • Select’s Car Review Score: 4.2 out of 5
  • Boot size: 591 litres.
  • Engine Options: Diesel, Petrol, Petrol Plug-In Hybrid
  • NCAP Safety Rating: 5 stars

With my previous lease contract coming to an end, I had to find a new lease deal at a time when a lot of my time was taken up with treatment of a couple of health issues. I needn't have worried as Select Car Leasing did all the work to find the car model that met all my requirements at a cost that was well within my budget. They handled all the discussions with the lease finance company, arranged the delivery time I wanted, and quickly resolved the couple of technical snags I encountered when signing off the e-contract documents. The whole process was quick and easy and I can't think of any part of their service that could have been delivered more effectively or quickly.
