The best new cars for young drivers

I’m a Young Driver – which lease car is best for me?

Young drivers with modest incomes used to find themselves barred from being able to drive a safe, high quality brand new car due to the heavy costs involved. However, leasing offers young drivers the chance to drive a safe, reliable, stylish brand new car at an affordable price. The great news is that as long as you’re 18 or older and can fulfil the other key application requirements, then the chance of being able to take a lease with us is good

Moreover, whereas young drivers with modest incomes used to find themselves restricted to old, often unsafe, unreliable breakdown bangers, today, thanks to leasing’s affordability, young drivers are now finding they can afford to drive a brand new safe, reliable and high-quality car.

The lower upfront payment required, combined with tailored on-going monthly payments has meant that young drivers can now benefit from the same access to all the latest models, technology and safety features as everyone else. Car leasing also means you save on some of motoring’s additional costs such as such as road tax, breakdown cover and MOT, as with Select Car Leasing, these are all inclusions of your contract.

For these reasons, car leasing is an excellent choice for young drivers.

Enjoy style and performance without running costs breaking the bank every month

The current greater focus on economy and emissions has also meant that there’s a fantastic selection of cars available that offer young drivers the benefit of very low running costs. These include popular vehicles such as the Peugeot 208, VW Golf and Nissan Micra.

Popular vehicles include the Ford Fiesta, Vauxhall Corsa, Peugeot 208, VW Polo, VW Golf or perhaps the Nissan Micra.  If you want something a little more premium then the A3 or A1, from Audi’s smaller hatchback range, are also great options.

At the other end of the performance scale, cars such as the VW Golf GTI, Peugeot 308 GTI, BMW 140i or even a Renault Sport Clio are among a growing range of ‘hot hatchbacks’ which combine economy and everyday practicality with high-performance sporty design and racy engines.

Leasing frees up your savings, so you can fulfil other dreams such as property ownership

When you’re looking to get on the property ladder, we know that every penny counts. In this situation, leasing is a great option because the upfront payment is often so much smaller than if you were buying a car, meaning that you’re unlikely to need to touch your savings. This enables you to put you any hard-earned money you’ve put aside to better use in realising some of your other dreams. For example:

• Putting down the deposit on a house

• Getting renovations done

• Going on that holiday

Key things to consider if you’re a young driver:

·         Calculate all additional on-the-road costs… such as insurance (which can be high for new drivers), fuel costs, maintenance costs and a slush fund for repairs.

·         Then assess your car budget… get help from a sensible adult to help you calculate what proportion of your income you should spend on your lease car.

·         How fast do you really need to go?... many new cars are very fast, so it’s wise to check first before choosing the highest performance model in the range. Take it for a test drive first and see if you feel you can handle it or alternatively, take some advanced driving lessons.

Connor Esberger was an extremely good contact throughout my leasing process. Very responsive and helpful. I can't thank him enough. However, the process wasn't straight forward and it made it frustrating for myself and Connor. Unfortunately the vehicle was very late in being delivered with so many bumps along the way with the Portal system incorrect and misinformation being given by others. We got there in the end however and I am now delighted with my new vehicle. I will use Select Car Leasing again and hope that it will be smoother next time and that my delivery experience is out of the ordinary.
