Behold, the stunning new Bentley Batur Convertible, a drop-top version of the British firm’s ludicrously powerful hypercar and which comes with a hefty price tag.
Bentley unleashed the Batur coupe last year, a strictly limited edition grand tourer powered by a whopping great W12 engine and which attracted a price tag of around £1.65 million quid.
With oomph of 750 PS, thanks to that 6.0-litre petrol unit, the Batur was described as the most powerful Bentley yet.
Now a Convertible variant has joined the party.
It’s another coachbuilt, hand-crafted affair that’s strictly limited to 16 examples worldwide. Early indications are that it will set you back around £2 million if you really want one, making it potentially the most expensive Bentley ever.
Like the Batur coupe the two-seat Batur Convertible gets a W12 mill producing 750 PS and 1,000 Nm of torque so that it can ‘deliver exceptional performance for this pinnacle grand tourer’, says Bentley.
As the manufacturer points out, the W12 won’t be around forever in the face of an electric revolution and the Batur Convertible will be one of the last ever Bentleys to use the powertrain.
The engine is paired with Bentley’s eight-speed double-clutch transmission and a sports exhaust that’s made entirely of titanium.
In the cabin, there’s a wraparound’ cockpit inspired by the design of the recent Bentley Bacalar and an abundance of 3D printed rose gold.
A Bentley spokesperson tells us: “The dramatic ‘airbridge’ behind the seats and tapered cowls at the rear hark back to the barchetta sports cars of old, whilst underlining the promise of a dynamic, driver-focused adventure in a cosseting, cocooned environment. The airbridge and tapered cowls are not only aesthetic, but also provide a semi-enclosed luggage compartment behind the two front seats.”
The roof goes up, or comes down, in 19 seconds.
And each and every Batur Convertible will be customised to within an inch of its life - according to the client’s exacting tastes - by the in-house design team at Bentley’s ‘Mulliner’ coachbuilding division.
The car you’re looking at here is labelled ‘#0’ - ie, not a customer car but one that’s been dreamed up by Bentley’s engineering team to highlight what might be possible.
It features duo-tone ‘Vermillion Gloss over Vermillion Satin’ paint, front splitters, side skirts and rear diffuser in high gloss carbon fibre, 22-inch wheels, and an ‘endless bonnet’ line finished in Gloss Dark Titanium paint.
