If you thought the Audi RS 6 Avant was tasty, check out this bad-ass new ‘GT’ special edition - with just 60 models earmarked for the UK.
The GT boasts the same engine and power as the regular Audi RS 6 Avant performance - 630PS and 850Nm of torque courtesy of a 4.0-litre TFSI V8 engine.
But pretty much everything else is new, from the carbon fibre bonnet to the 22-inch rims and distinctive wheel arch vents.
And we can thank a bunch of young apprentice boffins for this Audi collector’s item.
Back in 2020, twelve Audi apprentices were learning to work as bodywork and vehicle construction mechanics, automotive mechanics, automotive painters, and tooling mechanics.
For six months, they toiled on the project ‘RS 6 GTO’ concept car, taking lots of inspiration from the Audi 90 quattro IMSA GTO race car from 1989 (below).
Now, that RS 6 GTO concept (below, left) has formed the basis of the full-blown RS 6 Avant GT production vehicle. So, hats off to the future Audi stars, the kids are alright.
The front end of the Audi RS 6 Avant GT is clearly borrowed from the RS 6 GTO concept, with the singleframe and air intakes finished entirely in high-gloss black to make the performance estate look lower, wider and more aggressive than ever.
The bonnet is made entirely from carbon - an Audi first - as are the arches housing the 22-inch wheels, which is an Audi first.
Viewed from the side, the GT boasts inserts in the side skirts and exterior mirror covers in glossy carbon, while there’s motorsports-inspired diffuser and double wing at the back.
An Audi spokesperson adds: “For the first time in the history of the RS 6 Avant, the roof rails have been removed for an even flatter, sportier silhouette.”
Lucky RS 6 Avant GT have the option of choosing decals in two different colours - ‘Arkona White’ or ‘Mythos black’, while the interior is awash with ‘RS 6 GT’ lettering.
When it comes to outright performance, the Audi RS 6 Avant GT sprints from 0-62mph in 3.3 seconds - 0.1 of a second quicker than the regular RS 6.
Ceramic brakes come as standard, as does the latest locking centre differential, which distributes engine power to the front and rear axles to offer ‘more precise cornering’ while reducing understeer.
There’s adjustable coilover suspension, too.
Our Audi spokesperson adds: “For the first time, and only for the RS 6 Avant GT, adjustable coilover suspension comes as standard. A higher spring rate, triple-adjustable dampers, and stiffer stabilisers (30 per cent stiffer at the front and 80 per cent at the rear) ensure less body roll, which once again significantly increases the fun factor. The necessary tools and instructions for making individual adjustments are also on board.”
