Audi upgrades its Q7 SUV

The flagship Audi Q7 has been facelifted for 2024, coming with sharper new styling and enhanced tech.

The Q7 is the largest SUV in Audi’s stable, with the seven-seater being bigger in stature than the sleeker, more coupe-like Q8.

It’s also a popular tow car, capable of hauling 3.5 tonnes with ease.

And now Audi has treated both the regular Q7 and the sporty SQ7 to an eye-catching ‘minimalist’ design makeover.

The front grille has been given vertical inlays in an ‘L’ shape which, Audi says, makes the Q car stand out from the other A vehicles in the firm’s line-up.

Meanwhile the entire front end has been honed - complete with repositioned headlights - to give it a ‘cleaner’, ‘purer’ more ‘purposeful’ look, according to the German manufacturer.

There are HD Matrix LED headlights with optional laser beam tech, as well as new OLED rear lights at the back, both of which are making their debuts on the Q7.

Audi has introduced new paint schemes - including ‘Chilli Red’ and ‘Sakhir Gold’ - while handing Q7 customers a new choice of alloy wheels.

Inside the cabin, Audi is expanding the range of apps available via the infotainment system. For the first time, passengers can directly use apps from third-party providers like Spotify or Amazon Music.

The Audi virtual cockpit will also now display a lane change warning, distance warning, intersection assist and traffic light info while warning you of other road users.

When it comes to the regular Q7, standard-fit equipment includes quattro all-wheel drive, adaptive air suspension, Matrix LED headlamps, a rear view camera, leather upholstery, electrically adjustable heated front sports seats with 'S' embossed logo, Audi Virtual cockpit and privacy glass.

The top-spec Vorsprung trim, meanwhile, includes HD Matrix LED headlamps with Audi laserlight, a panoramic roof, all-wheel steering, and larger 22-inch black metallic Audi Sport wheels. The cabin also boasts an extended leather pack, B&O Premium Sound System, four-zone climate control, a head-up display, and front seat ventilation and massage functions fitted as standard.

You’ll find all-wheel steering exclusively with the performance SQ7.

When it comes to the choice of engines, Audi is sticking with traditional diesels and petrol for the time being. A plug-in hybrid Q7 was previously available in the not-too-distant past, but it was discontinued due to supply issues.

That leaves you with a 3.0 litre TDI diesel unit offering power of either 231 PS or 286 PS.

Or you can opt for a 3.0 litre TFSI petrol, delivering power of 340 PS and propelling you from 0-62mph in a mere 5.6 seconds.

All of those powertrains work together with an eight-speed tiptronic, quattro permanent four-wheel drive, and a clever mild-hybrid system which Audi says will let you ‘coast with the engine off for up to 40 seconds’, helping to lower your fuel bills.

The full-on Audi SQ7, however, is a different beast.

It gets a 4.0-litre V8 with power of 507 PS and 770 Nm of torque - the same as before - which will tick-off the first 62 mph in just 4.1 seconds. There’s also an exhaust flap in the two outer tailpipes of the exhaust system that modulates the sound depending on load and rev speed.

With the SQ7, a sport differential domes as standard, helping to shift torque between the wheels for maximum traction. The SQ7 also comes with electromechanical active roll stabilisation (eAWS) which reduces the rocking and swaying you might get on uneven road surfaces, while also keeping you level when pushing-on through the corners.

Order books for the new Audi Q7 will open in March 2024 with first customer deliveries expected in May. It'll remain a key rival to SUVs like the Volvo XC90, BMW X5 and Porsche Cayenne

In the meantime, you can lease the current Audi Q7 with Select Car Leasing from £790 per month*.

First time for car leasing and looking back at the process, everything went smoothly. Quite a lot of paperwork to sign before getting a delivery date but i suppose it’s all part of the course. David Harding was very helpful from start to finish and helped me with all the questions that i had. I can’t speak highly enough of David. The car was delivered by a very helpful and pleasant man ( Jim ) , who showed me all that i needed to know about the car. I would recommend select car leasing for all aspects and i have no negatives .
