- New Goldfinger Edition of the Aston Martin DB12
- Celebrates a 60-year affiliation with James Bond
- Limited to just 60 models
- Expected to cost around £300,000 each
From Britain with love - here’s the new Aston Martin DB12 Goldfinger Edition.
Warwickshire’s finest Aston Martin has a long affiliation with iconic movie spy James Bond, with 007 having first gotten behind the wheel of an Aston - a DB5 - on screen in 1964 flick Goldfinger.
Now the British firm is celebrating that 60-year partnership with this Goldfinger Edition variant of the DB12 which, fittingly, is limited to just 60 models worldwide.
The DB12 is, of course, Aston’s classy ‘super tourer’ which launched in the middle of last year.
The Goldfinger Edition retains the same powertrain as the regular DB12, a 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbo engine developing 680 PS, 800 Nm of torque and which is capable of accelerating you from 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds.
What’s different about the two cars is that the Goldfinger Edition comes with an array of bespoke features designed by the ‘Q by Aston Martin’ personalisation service.
Those touches include a ‘Silver Birch’ paint colour that’s synonymous with the DB5 driven by the late Sean Connery in Goldfinger.
There are also 21-inch multi-spoke wheels in silver and gold side strakes and a unique Aston Martin logo.
The cabin has been treated to leather Sports Plus seats with a classic Prince of Wales check pattern which Bond regularly sports on his suits.
There are fancy 18k gold-plated interior accents on the drive mode rotary dial, roller controls and gear selector which takes design inspiration from the golden tracking device used by Bond in the Oscar-winning movie.
There’s even an ’eight of hearts’ embroidered onto the drivers’ sun visor, which references the playing card seen during the famous Miami pool scene in Goldfinger.
Prices haven’t been confirmed, but the DB12 Goldfinger Edition is expected to cost around £300,000. If that sounds pricey, consider that a DB5 once owned by Sean Connery recently sold at auction for almost £2m.
Those lucky enough to own a Goldfinger Edition will also get a selection of gifts - including an actual piece of the 35mm celluloid film from the Furka Pass scene in Goldfinger, in which Bond races a soft-top Ford Mustang being driven by the late actress Tania Mallet.
