Hyundai have released their first electric model Ioniq back in July 2016 in electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrid.
- Company’s first electric model offered in three powertrains.
- Prices starts from £19,995
- Successfully achieved full five-star safety ratings from EuroNCAP
Design and styling
In terms of design and styling, the Ioniq has the appearance of a smart stylish coupe styled hatchback car. Its designed with an aerodynamic profile using less steel and including aluminium in the bonnet weighing the Ioniq just around 1370kg which also helps to generate a higher fuel efficiency.
Do you know?
The Ioniq name is a combination of the word ion, an electrically-charged atom, and the word 'unique'.
Interior & practicality
Its eye-catching blue themed dashboard and high quality interior are really impressive. Plus, the D-cut shaped leather wrapped steering wheel is a clear highlight of the car providing a sporty image.
The Ioniq is a bit more spacious compared to its rivals offering 443-litres for the hybrid range which can be extendable to 1505 litres by folding the rear seats down. The multi-storage compartment can easily accommodate a tablet or other accessories. The Basic SE model comes with a 5-inch touchscreen media centre whereas the Premium model comes with an 8inch touchscreen with satellite navigation including traffic messaging channel, Map Care and TomTom LIVE services. The Premium model also benefits from wireless charging for smartphones that charge wirelessly via the integrated charge pad.
In terms of safety, all the trim levels get active and passive safety features as standard including ABS (anti-lock braking system), remote central locking, hill start assist, lane departure warning, tyre pressure monitoring, and autonomous emergency braking system.
Engine details
The Ioniq is the first car from the South Korean brand, offering three powertrains and is the manufacturers answer to rivals Toyota Prius, Nissan Leaf, Volkswagen Gold GTE and Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV.
The hybrid powertrain is powered by a 1.6 litre petrol engine and lithium-ion polymer battery to maximise acceleration when required.
Please note – Currently the Ioniq’s electric and hybrid versions are currently available with the plug-in hybrid joining the range probably in middle of 2017.
