Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale - world’s most beautiful hypercar?

  • Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale enjoys final testing
  • Customer deliveries begin December 2024
  • Put through paces at Italy’s Nardo ring
  • Estimated £2.6m price tag

The jaw-dropping Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale has been undergoing final tests ahead of customer deliveries beginning next month.

In case you need a refresh, the new 33 Stradale is Alfa Romeo’s attempt to rebirth the iconic 33 Stradale first launched in 1967.

Since its inception, the 33 Stradale (below) has been considered one of the most beautiful cars of all time, despite the fact that it went up against legends like the Lamborghini Miura and Ferrari Daytona.

This reimagined Stradale is every inch as eye-catching.

Just 33 models will be produced at a cost of around £2.6 million each. Ouch. The first lucky owner will get their mitts on it in December.

And, ahead of that debut, the 33 Stradale has been thundering around the Nardò Technical Center in Italy - a famous proving ground that’s thought to be the fastest circular car track in the world.

The car you’re looking at here is equipped with a 3.0-litre V6 twin-turbo engine delivering over 620 hp and mated to an 8-speed DCT gearbox, rear-wheel drive and electronic limited-slip differential.

It’ll sprint from 0-62 mph in ‘under three seconds’, according to Alfa Romeo, which would put it neck and neck with the Maserati MC20. Top speed for the 33 Stradale tops out at 207 mph.

There is, though, another option - because well-heeled buyers could also choose a fully-electric powertrain instead. Here a 102 kWh battery and three electric motors results in 750 hp and a range of around 280 miles between charges.

An Alfa Romeo spokesperson tells us: “As everything is designed and aimed at the utmost human-machine involvement, the car offers two drive modes, which can be activated from the switches on the central tunnel – Strada (Road) and Pista (Track). The former, engaged when the car is started, ensures comfort and driving pleasure, smooth power delivery, usual pedal sensitivity, soft suspension, fluid transmission and active exhaust valves open only above 4,000 rpm. Alternatively, in Pista mode, the driver chooses an adrenaline-fuelled drive, the power is at its peak, the pedals are even more responsive and the suspension is rigid, as well as offering rapid gearshift and active exhaust valves that are always open.”

For that £2.6m outlay you get an aluminium H-frame, carbon-fibre monocoque, an active suspension system and Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes.
