Top 10 Cheapest Electric Cars in 2024

The list of cheapest electric cars in the UK might surprise you. Many of the key manufacturers are represented, including Citroen, Renault, Vauxhall and Mazda. But you'll also find vehicles from challenger brands such as BYD and Leapmotor.

Read our comprehensive guide to the Top 10 Cheapest Electric Cars and connect straight through to the best EV lease deals available in the UK today.

Which electric cars are generally the lowest price to lease?

Because of the way that leasing a car works, the higher a vehicle’s ‘residual value’ – i.e. what it’s worth after your lease period ends – the more affordable the deal. And because EVs generally depreciate in value more slowly than a petrol or diesel car, you can enjoy smile-inducing monthly fees, for example:

  • The Dacia Spring is a compact, fully-electric city car that's well-equipped as standard and has a range of up to 140 miles between charges.
  • The multi award-winning MG MG4 should be high up your cheap electric vehicle lease wish list, as the EV has taken the fight to some of the market's leading heavyweight hatchbacks.

Here are the very cheapest electric cars to lease in 2024:

  1. Citroen Ami
  2. Dacia Spring
  3. Leapmotor T03
  4. Citroen e-C3
  5. Renault 5 E-Tech
  6. Fiat 500 Electric
  7. BYD Dolphin
  8. Vauxhall Corsa Electric
  9. MG4 EV
  10. Mazda MX-30

Read on to discover why there’s more to love about these Top 10 Cheapest Electric Cars in 2024 than just the price:

1: Citroen Ami

Electric vehicles don't get more pint-sized, or more affordable, than the Citroen AMI.

The AMI isn't technically a 'car'. Instead it's a four-wheel quadricycle that has been designed specifically for the cut and thrust of traversing the urban jungle.

A 6.3 kWh battery provides a range of around 47 miles between charges - but don't expect to go above a top speed that's just shy of 30 mph.

You will, however, be able to park it wherever you please and it has a smaller turning circle than a London taxi, making it ideal for city commuting. A full recharge from 0-100% takes around 4 hours.

2: Dacia Spring

The first examples of the Dacia Spring appeared on UK roads towards the end of 2024. And with the Spring being billed as THE most affordable EV in the UK, with prices beginning at around £15,295, the cheap hatchback was eagerly-anticipated.

A modestly-sized 26.8 kWh battery provides a range of up to 140 miles in mixed driving conditions. In the UK, the average person drives about 20 miles per day - so that distance should be ample for most.

All models come equipped with a 7-inch digital cluster, cruise control, air con, and rear parking sensors, while models at a higher grade enjoy a 10-inch screen and sat nav.

Using a typical home wallbox, you'll be able to recharge a Dacia Spring from 20-100% in around four hours.

3: Leapmotor T03

Leapmotor is a Chinese manufacturer that's new to the UK lease market but one which you shouldn't underestimate, as it's backed by global manufacturing giant Stellantis.

The Leapmotor T03 is a compact electric hatchback that boasts clean, minimalist styling alongside a range of up to 165 miles between charges.

Fast charging at speeds of 48 kW DC can take the battery from 30% to 8% in 36 minutes.

And, unusually for an EV at this price point, the T03 also comes with driver assistance tech such as adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking.

4: Citroen e-C3

The attractive e-C3 sits alongside the traditionally-fuelled C3 in Citroen's line-up, and there's much to admire.

A relaxing ride is a big deal for Citroen, so the e-C3 boasts 'Advanced Comfort' suspension and seats, as well as a plush interior.

A 44 kWh battery provides power of 113 hp and a generous range of up to 198 miles, while 100 kW DC rapid charging capabilities can replenish the energy from 20-80% in just 26 minutes.,

Entry-level models also get a 10-inch infotainment touchscreen that supports wireless smartphone mirroring.

5: Renault 5 E-Tech

When the Renault 5 E-Tech was launched at the end of 2024 it did so as one of the most hotly-anticipated models of the year. And it's not hard to see why.

Modern design meets retro flair, eye-popping colour options immediately catch the eye, and an interior that can be equipped with eco-friendly denim is a tactile joy.

You get a range of up to 248 miles, depending on which battery size you lease, while 80 kW DC charging can take the energy from 15-80% in around 30 mins.

Even the cheapest entry-level models are well equipped as standard.

6: Fiat 500e Electric

Fiat's compact 500e Electric might be small but it packs a big punch when it comes to value for money for lease customers.

A Fiat 500e lease also means you get to enjoy the firm's trademark Italian styling while tapping into the 500's 60-year model history.

There are two battery options available. A 24 kWh unit provides a range of up to 118 miles while a larger 42 kWh battery ups the range to 200 miles.

Range-topping La Prima models are particularly attractive, coming with 17-inch alloys, eco-leather seats with 'FIAT' monogram stitching, and a premium JBL sound system.

7: BYD Dolphin

Chinese manufacturer BYD made great strides in 2024, attracting scores of new UK lease customers with cars like the Tesla Model 3-rivalling Seal and the accomplished Atto 3 SUV

The Dolphin, meanwhile, is BYD's compact urban SUV-hatchback crossover, which has proved to be particularly affordable on the leasing market.

The Dolphin's largest 60.4 kWh battery gives you a range of up to 265 miles between charges while it also supports rapid charging at speeds of up to 100 kW DC, which can replenish the energy from 30% to 80% in just 29 minutes.

8: Vauxhall Corsa Electric

The Vauxhall Corsa Electric is a fun-loving, family-sized hatchback - and also one of the UK's best-selling electric superminis.

A Vauxhall Corsa Electric lease provides a range of up to 248 miles between charges while it also supports rapid 100 kW DC recharges for those double-quick energy replenishes on the go.

It's a car that's also well-equipped as standard.

Entry-level  'Design' models feature 16-inch alloys, a 10-inch colour touchscreen with full phone connectivity, and rear parking sensors.

9: MG4 EV

When the MG4 EV first launched in 2022, few expected it to set the benchmark for the entire market. But it has - and continues to do so.

The MG4 EV has racked-up more award wins that we can count, the most recent being a 'Small Electric Car of the Year' gong in the 2024 What Car? Car of the Year awards.

Why are critics so bowled over by it? That's easy - the MG4 EV blends dynamic handling and a comfortable, spacious interior with wallet-friendly levels of affordability.

Extended Range models can travel up to 323 miles between charges while 'XPower' variants bring the performance.

10: Mazda MX-30

The Mazda MX-30 is an interesting car in that it's available to lease with either a fully-electric or plug-in hybrid powertrain. We're focusing on the pure EV here.

A relatively modest range of 124 miles is supplied by a 35.5 kWh battery. But the MX-30 has other tricks up its sleeves.

It's considered one of the best-handling affordable EVs available, a car that taps into Mazda's 'Jinba Ittai' philosophy, for machine and driver to be 'as one' when on the road.

The MX-30 also features unique reverse-opening 'freestyle' rear doors which provide access to the back seats.

Callum my agent was very helpful and efficient. From start to finish he always kept me updated on developments and when we had a slight delay on the delivery date he was in touch with me constantly to update. My car spec is exactly what I ordered and as soon as it was delivered I received a courtesy call from Callum. I would highly recommend select car to anyone!
