Volkswagen ID.3 Hatchback review

The Volkswagen ID.3 was heralded as the future when it arrived in 2020. Here, finally, was the electric car that would eventually replace the Golf as VW’s flagship family hatchback. And while that hasn’t quite materialised – electric car sales haven’t killed off conventional combustion cars yet – the ID.3 has certainly made an impact on the market. So much so, in fact, that the ranks of electric hatchbacks have swollen noticeably since the ID.3 first hit the market.

Against that background, the ID.3 has been revamped, getting a slightly sportier design and a more premium interior, as well as a different specification. As upgrades go, it isn’t massive, but the ID.3 was already a frontrunner in its class, and Volkswagen will be hoping subtle tweaks are all the ID.3 needs to keep its place in the leading pack. The question is, will that prove to be the case?

Jim was easy to work with and I got the vehicle I requested. Hand over was easy and the delivery driver spent time explaining all the cars functions. Communication was good throughout the process.

Voytek Kowalczyk in particular made this process really painless. I had quotes put out in the market to over a dozen brokers (for this company car lease). There was only one quote that came in cheaper than Select but it came eight days too late (after I signed the Select papers off). On detailed examination it turned out to be £97 cheaper over three years instead of the £535 that appeared initially. This is because even if their monthly charge was £15 cheaper, the initial payment was £428 higher - assuming zero interest acrual on the £428. Voytek is a great communicator and, though clearly busy, keep me posted on the progress. The experience so far has been great. Will return to this review when I renew in three years, to state how that has been.
