You can consider the Solterra a sibling car to the Toyota bZ4x. Both cars were built on the same platform thanks to an agreement between Subaru and Toyota, and both have distinctive, go-anywhere plastic cladding on the wheel arches.
But the Subaru boasts its own exterior styling, particularly at the front end.
And the key difference between the Solterra and the bZ4X is that the Subaru features a no-nonsense, permanent all-wheel drive system as standard, enabling it to go wherever you point it.
Lease customers also get the ‘Subaru Safety Sense’ suite of software as standard, which brings reverse automatic braking, pre-collision braking, and a 360-degree camera.
The Solterra will appeal to lease customers who love the great outdoors, or who live in the wilder, more agricultural parts of the UK.
You don’t need to be an off-road expert to get the most out of the Solterra, either. Hit the ‘X-Mode’ button - fitted on all models - and you’ll be able to navigate steep, slippery slopes and even snow, with ease.
A ground clearance of 210 mm also helps to take the Solterra to places other EVs simply can’t reach.
Yet with a sophisticated cabin and a competitive range between charges, the Solterra will be just at home in the urban jungle as it is on a muddy lane. A heat pump is also fitted as standard, which helps you to maximise the driving range.
There’s just one.
A 71.4 kWh battery provides power of 215 hp, which is channelled through two electric motors, one on each axle. The battery supports 150 kW fast charging.
