Skoda has a reputation for building solid, highly practical cars. The Kodiaq does nothing to break that mould, providing an all-rounder large SUV that has distinctive Skoda style but is underpinned by German reliability thanks to the influence of its parent company, Volkswagen.

There’s bags of room and ample comfort, even in the lead in versions, and if you need a few extra seats, it is also available as a seven-seat version ideal for a large family. Skoda packs its cars with ‘Simply Clever’ touches too, and the Kodiak is no exception. You’ll find details such as an umbrella hidden in each of the front doors, an ice scraper in the fuel filler flap, and even curry hooks in the rear to keep your takeaway safely upright. 

After thorough testing, the Skoda Kodiaq was awarded five stars out of five by the safety experts at Euro NCAP, with good scores for not only driver and passenger safety but also pedestrian safety. Emergency braking systems are fitted as standard across the range, and there are lots of safety options that can be added by way of safety packs, so it is worth checking out all of the options to ensure that you have everything you want to keep you and your family safe.

Being a pretty large SUV, there’s plenty of head and legroom available for all occupants in the five-seat versions, with the seven-seater adding an extra pair at the rear that will comfortably accommodate two extra children. Boot space is generous across all versions - especially if you fold the rear seats down in the seven-seater.

The steering is light making it easy to manoeuvre, which for a large vehicle is great around town. There are lots of little touches which make it great for families, like the protective strips on the door edges which flip out on opening the door, making car park dings much less likely. 

There are five different trim levels available, starting with the entry-level SE, followed by the SE L, Sportline and the luxurious Laurin & Klement. There’s also the sporty vRS, with a potent engine and four-wheel drive.

SE, SE L are conventional models, with the SE L adding a few more gadgets to the cabin. The Sportline adds some dark trim, large wheels and some sporty cosmetic upgrades, and offers a fine balance of equipment levels and style. The Laurin & Klement trim was created in deference to the founders of Skoda, and offers a surprisingly luxurious cabin, with a panoramic sunroof as standard, along with countless other nice touches.

The vRS model offers a more dynamic, sporty driving experience, as well as a sports steering wheel and microsuede upholstery.
