Mercedes GLE SUV Review
A large and luxurious SUV available as a fuel-efficient cruiser or a monstrously powerful performance car.
Enjoy a distinct design, cutting-edge levels of technology and a strong emphasis on safety with a Mercedes-Benz GLE lease. What’s more, the GLE can also be enjoyed as either a five or seven seater, offering both luxury and practicality for busy families.
Read moreThe GLE slots into the Mercedes-Benz range of SUVs ahead of the GLC and just behind the more upmarket GLS. It’s a major rival to cars such as the Audi Q7, BMW X5, Land Rover Discovery and Volvo XC90.
And whichever trim level you choose, lease customers can expect it to be well-specced as standard. Base AMG Line models feature 20 inch alloys, lowered suspension, privacy glass, heated Nappa leather seats, as well as driver assistance tech including Blind Spot Assist.
Meanwhile range-topping AMG Line Premium Plus models come loaded with the full ‘driver assistance package’ - which includes Active Lane Keeping Assist and Evasive Steering Assist - as well as uprated 22 inch alloys and a panoramic sunroof.
Inside the cabin, the GLE boasts a state-of-the-art Mercedes-Benz ‘MBUX’ infotainment system, which features a natural voice control system as well as an intuitive touchscreen that responds to finger gestures, and also accepts handwriting input.
Another great thing about a GLE lease is that there’s a plug-in hybrid powertrain available, alongside the more traditional diesel engines and sophisticated petrol units that feature mild-hybrid assistance.
The plug-in hybrid ‘350 de’ marries a 2.0 litre diesel engine to a 31.2 kWh battery to create a combined 330 hp and 840 Nm of torque. There’s a range up to 58 miles using electricity alone, it’ll charge in approximately 3.5 hours, and business lease customers will pay just 7% Benefit in Kind (BIK) tax if they need a GLE as a company car.

A large and luxurious SUV available as a fuel-efficient cruiser or a monstrously powerful performance car.
In simple terms, leasing is the single most cost-effective and hassle free method of driving a brand-new car, and with Select Car Leasing you can be sure that you are in safe hands.
The GLE is a large Mercedes-Benz SUV, and with that comes a number of very desirable features. You get a badge with more than a century of history behind it, as well as a choice of petrol, diesel or plug-in hybrid power. The GLE features a beautiful, high-tech interior packed with features, and it has space for seven to travel in luxurious comfort. On top of that, it’s available in two body styles: the ultra-practical GLE, or the more stylish GLE Coupe.
The GLE is a large, premium car with plenty of trim levels and engine choices, so the leasing rates can vary quite a bit. Thankfully though, because of Select Car Leasing’s market-leading industry links, we can offer you the most competitive leasing rates and special offers in the country. Why not check the full list of leasing deals on the Mercedes GLE, and see which one best suits your requirements and budget?
The GLE’s main features, aside from the fact that it’s a Mercedes and therefore very desirable, are its passenger-carrying capabilities, it’s fantastic interior and the quality of its technology. On top of that, it has a wide choice of engines, including a mega-efficient diesel plug-in hybrid model, with a very impressive range of up to 54 miles on electric power alone. There’s also a pair of mega-powerful GLEs from Mercedes’ tuning arm, AMG. The GLE Coupe model offers five seats rather than seven, but has a more rakish, sports-car-like silhouette to compensate.
The GLE was reviewed and tested by independent safety organisation Euro NCAP in 2019 and was given the maximum five-star score, with great marks in adult and child safety tests. All models come with just about every available safety system as standard, including automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist and a blind-spot warning system. When it comes to practicality, the regular GLE is the model to go for if you want to carry more than five people, as it has an extra row of two seats in the back. Having them in place can compromise boot space, but you can fold them into the floor when not in use. With them stowed away, boot space is huge. The GLE Coupe has a touch less headroom in the back but it’s still very roomy, and the boot is big too, without the extra seats to get in the way.
Once you’ve decided which power option you want, and whether you fancy the regular car of the Coupe model, there are three trim choices to choose from. All are based on the sporty-looking AMG Line model, which comes as standard with big 20-inch wheels, keyless entry and start, LED headlights and front and rear parking sensors. AMG Line Premium adds bigger wheels, four-zone air conditioning, while AMG Line Premium Plus adds even bigger wheels, a panoramic glass sunroof, and Airmatic air suspension for a more cushioned ride. The powerful AMG GLE 53 comes in Premium or Premium Plus trims, while the top-spec AMG GLE 63 comes in a single, fully-loaded model.
