Mid-engined, two-seat super sports cars don’t get much more exciting than the Maserati MC20 Cielo, the convertible variant of the regular MC20 coupe.
From butterfly doors to a powertrain packed with Formula 1 tech, the MC20 Cielo is a ‘one of a kind Spyder’, and which takes the driving experience to an ‘holistic and immersive level’, according to the Italian manufacturers.

A rival to the Ferrari 296 GTS and the McLaren 720S Spider, at the heart of the Maserati MC20 Cielo sits a 3.0 litre V6 ‘Nettuno’ petrol engine that delivers power of 630 hp and a 0-62mph time under 2.9 seconds. Top speed hits 201 mph. It’s also precisely the same engine to be experienced in the MC20 coupe.
The state-of-the-art glass roof retracts into a compartment in the rear at the touch of a button and can be operated at speeds up to 31 mph. It also opens or closes in just 12 seconds.
While the Cielo weighs 65 kg more than the regular MC20 coupe, a lightweight carbon fibre monocoque tub ensures the spyder is just as capable as its Maserati stablemate on the track or road.
You can also expect a host of driver assistance and safety systems above and beyond the MC20 coupe, which includes autonomous emergency braking, traffic sign recognition and a 360 degree camera. An upmarket Sonus Faber sound system has also been specifically designed to enhance the Cielo’s cabin.
As Maserati points out, the convertible Cielo is a vehicle where two worlds come together: “Being able to see more when the roof is retracted and enjoying the same acceleration, power and driving dynamics as its twin - the MC20 Coupe - when closed.”
