Jeep Wrangler Review
Jeep’s new Wrangler is here, with all the style and practicality as its predecessors, whether you're after a utilitarian off-roader or a 'Chelsea Tractor'.
Off-roaders don’t get more iconic than the legendary Jeep Wrangler. And a major update for the Wrangler in 2023 has ensured that this tough rock-hopper remains a sophisticated rival to the likes of the Land Rover Defender and the Toyota Land Cruiser, as well as pickups like the Ford Ranger.
Read moreThe Wrangler - a rugged SUV that has sold more than five million models since its launch in 1987 - sits close to the pinnacle of the Jeep range, ahead of the Jeep Compass but behind the flagship Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Jeep Wrangler 2024 models benefit from a heavy-duty ‘full-float rear axle’ - on ‘Rubicon’ trim models - which is something typically reserved for commercial trucks, and means the Wrangler can tackle anything you throw at it.
Despite the Wrangler’s love of muddy trails and steep tracks, it’s also adept on the road, coming with safety tech such as Drowsy Driver Alert, Lane Departure Warning and Traffic Sign Information.
A 12.3-inch ‘Uconnect 5’ touchscreen infotainment system and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard boots comfort.
The Wrangler is exclusively powered by a traditional 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol unit with power of 272 hp and 400 Nm of torque.
While the Wrangler is available as a plug-in hybrid in other markets, the PHEV hasn’t arrived in the UK just yet.
Meanwhile top-spec ‘Rubicon’ trim models boast a black hard top, Nappa seats with leather inserts, an off-road camera, auxiliary switches, and sway bar disconnection.

Is there anything more iconic than the all-American Jeep Wrangler? While the classic Land Rover Defender has morphed into another me-too SUV, the Wrangler has remained true to its roots and is as identifiable now as it was in the 1940s. That’s not to say things haven’t moved on; the current Wrangler is the eighth generation model and bears only a passing resemblance to the infamous Willys-Overland CJ-3, the civilian version of the World War 2 Jeep. Now you'll find the latest cutting edge technology, incredible off-road ability and a level of comfort the original drivers couldn’t even dream of. It does all that while retaining its iconic and instantly recognisable style.

Simply being a Jeep is a key feature! There’s nothing like a Jeep on the roads, so that makes it an interesting and distinctive leasing option straight away. Of course, those seven vertical bars on the grille and that Jeep badge need to be backed up by some off-road credentials, and the Wrangler isn’t found wanting there. A badge on the side of the Wrangler Rubicon says it’s ‘Trial Rated’ and that’s not an idle boast - Jeep takes their cars to the Moab Trail in Colorado, home to some of the toughest terrain on earth, and pushes the vehicles to their limits.
Despite being designed to conquer any terrain, the Wrangler still receives the latest safety equipment. You’ll find emergency brake assist, lane departure warnings, rear traffic alerts, a reversing camera, trailer sway control and all sorts of electronic aids, as well as stability of four-wheel drive, to keep you on the straight and narrow. The super-strong body adds further reassurance that, if things should go awry, you’ll be well protected. Space for passengers is plentiful, depending on the model chosen. The compact three-door has rear seats and a boot best used occasionally, but the five-door model has acres of space and a huge boot.
Jeep has kept it simple with the Wrangler. Once you’ve chosen between the short-wheelbase three-door and the longer five-door model, you’re left with just three trim to choose from. Sahara is the most road-focussed model, with 18inch polished alloy wheels and an 8.4-inch infotainment system. While the overland model adds some luxury, including leather seats and more cutting edge technology. The Rubicon models go in a different direction, creating the most capable Wrangler ever thanks to uprated drivetrain, suspension, wheels and tyres. Improved manoeuvrability, ground clearance, axle articulation, traction and fording ability means it’s just about unstoppable.
