If you’re a fan of the old Land Rover Defender, this stripped-back, hard-working Ineos Grenadier is a 4x4 that could see you going far.
Ineos Automotive is a British firm, headquartered in London, and founded by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, chairman of the multinational chemicals company Ineos.
Sir Jim’s favourite vehicle of all time is the previous incarnation of the Land Rover Defender - the model discontinued before the Defender was re-birthed as a modern SUV in 2020.

The Grenadier marries ‘rugged British spirit’ with reliable German engineering, as its vehicles’ engines are sourced directly from BMW.
There’s a straight-six 3.0 litre petrol unit with power of 285 hp and 450 Nm of torque, or a straight-six 3.0 diesel engine boasting 249 hp and 550 Nm of torque.
Permanent all-wheel-drive is also standard.
There are currently two body types to choose from - a two seat ‘Utility Wagon’ and five-seat ‘Station Wagon’ - both of which are ‘engineered for strength and built to last’. A double-cab pick-up is also in the works.
There’s significant cargo-carrying capabilities, as the Grenadier is able to take-on a typical Euro pallet. Standard features also include ‘Off-Road’ and ‘Wading Modes’ as well as Grenadier’s ‘Pathfinder’ off-road navigation.
There are mod-cons, too, in the form of a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, Nappa leather steering wheel and Recaro seats.
As well as the standard Utility Wagon and Station Wagon, there are also two ready-configured special editions, called ‘Trialmaster’ and ‘Fieldmaster’.
The Trialmaster is a homage to extreme off-roading, and named after the iconic Belstaff Trialmaster Jacket worn by motorcyclist Sammy Miller back in the 1950s. It gets front and rear diffs, knobbly tyres and a raised air intake for crossing rivers.
The Fieldmaster Edition offers more driver comfort, in the form of a rear-view camera, 17 inch alloys, Safari windows on the front roof portion, and heated leather seats.
The Grenadier also makes a great alternative to the Toyota Land Cruiser and the Subaru Forester e-BOXER.
