This is the new and improved Jeep Wrangler - with the refreshed off-roader set to arrive early in 2024.
The iconic Wrangler needs little in the way of an introduction. A rival to the toughest Land Rovers going, Jeep has sold a hefty five million Wranglers since the SUV’s launch in 1987.
Now Jeep has treated the Wrangler to a facelift - as it gets a more refined interior, better tech, added safety equipment and - perhaps most crucially - even greater off-road abilities.
One of the key new additions to the Wrangler is a heavy-duty ‘full-float rear axle’ - on ‘Rubicon’ trim models - which is something typically reserved for commercial trucks.
The axle design means the weight of the vehicle is transferred to the axle tube rather than the axle shaft itself.
Net result? The axle shaft is only subjected to torsional loads, and the entire axle is now ‘stronger and more robust’, says Jeep.
When it comes to safety, side curtain airbags are standard-fit while every Wrangler will also now benefit from Drowsy Driver Alert, Lane Departure Warning and Traffic Sign Information.
Jeep is promising a more ‘refined’ interior than before, with a 12.3-inch ‘Uconnect 5’ touchscreen infotainment system and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard.
And when it comes to the exterior, Jeep has made a few subtle tweaks, including an updated front grille and a windshield-integrated, trail-ready ‘stealth’ antenna that can’t be snagged when you’re enjoying the great outdoors.
The engine remains as it was before - a 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol unit with power of 272 hp and 400 Nm of torque.
Eric Laforge, Head of Jeep Brand in Europe, said: “The new 2024 Jeep Wrangler is enhancing its role as the “hero model” of the Jeep line-up by combining the legendary capability with more technology, comfort, and safety features. The Jeep Wrangler is the natural heir of the legendary Willys, the vehicle that has inspired the brand’s spirit and soul; since its arrival in 1987 it has been a mainstay of the SUV world and we’re very proud to celebrate the five millionth Jeep Wrangler.”
The 2024 Jeep Wrangler will be available in two trims - base Sahara and range-topping Rubicon.
The Sahara gets 18-inch alloys, heated front seats and steering wheel, reversing camera, front and rear parking sensors, and 12-way adjustable front seats.
The Rubicon Wrangler adds a black hard top, Nappa seats with leather inserts, an off-road camera, auxiliary switches, a Dana 44 HD full-float rear axle, and sway bar disconnection.
